What's the deal with the Frog

I've been seeing the card The Gitrog Monster all over the place. I'm curious what makes it such a good card? Is it a combo thing? Or is it more like Delver where it's just a great card overall? Why is it worth 10$??????

I thought that too, then I saw the "from anywhere" and I realized that this would become problematic with dredge and other strategies. Also, on another note... ALL HAIL THE GITROG.

It satisfies the cravings of a niche crowd who longed for a legendary frog creature and, let's face it, it has some pretty legit value when built around (5CMC 6/6 with Deathtouch?).

i just want to point out the card is mediocre if it couldnt combo a 5 mana 6/6 deathtouch is just not good and if the word "anywhere" was changed to any other limiting word in the human language this card would be a bulk mythic

My point is when people try to make this card out to be anything other than what it is -a mediocre combo card- they are just wasting their breath but also to show thats what the appeal is there are no other appealing factors other than that word.

I think that even though it has pretty limited applications in most formats, a lot of the hype rests in its perceived potential in EDH. Any card that lets you play an additional land each turn is pretty nice, land sac effects aren't usually a good thing but here it's turned into an advantage, Golgari colors are pretty great as-is, and a 6/6 deathtouch that also happens to be CMC5 (in the two best ramp colors out there- in fact, I think the only two-color combination that's better at ramping is U/G). I can see why the casual crowd loves him. I actually put him into my Jund lands EDH deck and so far he's testing super well.

I'm with EmblemMan on this one. It kinda has the same feel as Monastery Mentor to me. I don't think it's good enough to rock Modern but may find a home in a very good Vintage or Legacy deck. It's a cutesie card, and I like it, but I'm not sold that it's the amazing.

I sleeved up my first iteration of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad tonight and let me tell you.... It was INSANE. The sheer card advantage and ability to move through my deck was nuts. I was doing a lot of stuff, it was nuts. Gitrog is legit!

I've aggressively traded for my Toad as well on prerelease night and have been religiously playing it. The amount of gross card advantage when he gets going is great, and I haven't even thrown in as much combo as I could have. Toad is love toad is life. All hail hypnotoad.Bvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

Its just a cute combo card that interacts with the graveyard plus its a mythic and not even released yet. If it was just a great card and a mythic that hasnt been released i would hope itd be more than 10 dollars
