What if we had a format without the 4-of-a-name limit?

It'd be no fun to just include Standard legal cards, so lets just go Modern.

The first thing that would 100% happen is MonoDross. 60x Chancellor of the Dross .

Everything else would run Providence to survive it. Then they'd probably run alot of Chancellor of the Forge and Memnite or some sort of combo with Chancellor of the Tangle , Gemstone Caverns , and Simian Spirit Guide . Maybe Midnight Guard / Presence of Gond as a t2 Splinter Twin w/out haste?

One big problem is the fact that MonoDross Mirror matches would just be like "Lololol neither of us can win we both at 21 let's see who concedes first" or it would be whoever goes first wins bc the other person nat mills first.

What say you?

In the dross v dross scenario, the player who goes first wins. Per the gatherer rules. "A player’s “opening hand” is the hand of cards the player has after all players have taken mulligans and “scryed” if applicable. If players have any cards in hand that allow actions to be taken with them from a player’s opening hand, the starting player takes all such actions first in any order, followed by each other player in turn order. Then the first turn begins"

You have it exactly backwards. Both players would reveal the cards from their hands, starting player first. Then at the beginning of the first upkeep each player would have 7 triggers to be put on the stack. The triggers go on in APNAP order and then resolve FILO meaning that the non-active player's triggers resolve first.

This would probably be the worst idea yet but I also can't help but think how funny it would be for a deck with just 200 islands and 200 copies of Battle of Wits .

Even worse: A horrible blue deck consisting of Storm Crow s and a ton of copies of Search the City , along with a lot of Battle of Wits so that it adds up to two thousand cards. Essentially, 1/5 islands, 1/5 Storm Crows, 1/5 Battle of Wits, 1/5 Search the City, and 1/5 Random Removal Spells just to make it the worst blue deck ever.

whoa there, I thought Storm Crow was banned all thr way through to vintage!

maxon thats actually backwards. the active player adds their effects to the stack first, which mean they resolve last. in dross vs dross, the player on the draw would win.

Is this a necro?

Also, it would be a very stupid format. That's the point. I'd recommend just prebanning Dross, because that'd be an absolutely stupid deck, but what other decks would there be?

It's all degenerate bullcrap unseen anywhere else, so how stupid of a deck can we make? Maybe.... MonoNexus? Ramp into Nexus, but you're running only ramp and a bunch of Nexus of Fate, and one Elvish Visionary.... xD

OR Mon-R Phoenix, Fully Mono-R. Some mountains, a bunch of phoenixes, a bunch of Looting, and also some Rituals. Why not? T1 Looting a couple of Phoenixes away, T2 Ritual Looting Looting Looting for something like 6 Phoenixes, win T3....

When you can play 5+ copies of each card, there's about a million different ways to win on turn one. For example:

Simian Spirit Guide -> Simian Spirit Guide -> Surging Flame -> flip over 40 other Surging Flame s.

Simian Spirit Guide -> Rite of Flame -> Rite of Flame -> Manamorphose -> rinse and repeat for near-infinite mana, cards, and storm count.

Dark Ritual -> Dark Ritual -> Entomb -> Animate Dead -> Griselbrand -> repeat Dark Ritual -> Entomb -> Animate Dead until you get whatever amount of whatever creature(s) you want.

Grim Monolith s and/or Mana Vault s to power out an early Emrakul, the Aeons Torn .

Even if you make the format Standard-only, you'd still have people doing bullshit like making a deck with nothing but Viashino Pyromancer s, Ghitu Lavarunner s, Wizard's Lightning s, and Mountain s for guaranteed turn 3 or 4 kills. There's a reason there's a limit of 4 copies. Without it, you end up with either a format that's decided by the coin flip or a banlist longer than the dictionary.
