Just some talk on the Bestest of the best blue cards.

Feel free to post your favorite blue card. (Then we can all hate on it, but also tell you a better replacement!)

Besides just talking about the best blue cards out there, I'd also like to purpose a question. ;)

Which of the following cards is the best among them? Serum Visions, Preordain, Ponder, and Brainstorm.

In case you're wondering, my preferred of the four is Brainstorm. If I had to put them in order of how much I like them, Brainstorm would be first, followed by Ponder, then Preordain, and lastly Serum Visions.

You hit the nail on the head, but Brainstorm does require shuffle effects to get maximum value. With that, one could argue Ponder to better than it.

Brainstorm>Ponder>Preordain>Serum Visions

In a vacuum, Ponder is the best.

Slayne, yeah, I tend to use them both interchangeably. But, I do favor Brainstorm because it's an instant. Which also means it is the only one of the four that can be "imprinted" on Isochron Sceptor, Elite Arcanist, and Kaho, Minamo Historian. :)

Whoops, meant Isochron Scepter. Sorry!

In all honesty, my favorite blue card has to be Fact or Fiction. Very satisfying to resolve.

I won't deny Brainstorm is pretty awesome, but... There's nothing like casting Brainstorm and putting two cards I don't want to draw on top with no shuffle effect in sight to make me pine for Ponder... Though Brainstorm being an instant is nice: getting to Fact or Fiction into a Dig Through Time into a Brainstorm into a Force of Will felt really satisfying the one time it happened...

How are you even comparing those cantrips fairly? Brainstorm is just on a whole other level compared to any of those, second only to Ancestral Recall. Ponder is also significantly worse without fetchlands, though it is still better than Preordain because it sees three cards instead of two. After that, Serum Visions obviously can't be compared to the other three cantrips you mentioned.

I'm not saying I disagree with your opinion, OP, but I don't think that your comparison is entirely fair.

April 22, 2015 10:13 p.m.

PutridLeech, while it is indeed a very broken card, it is unfortunately, not blue, as klone13 mentioned?

vishnarg, wow, what an overpowered card. This is one of the reasons I started this forum, to praise beautiful cards that I had no idea existed until now. * offers fistbump *

TheDevicer, a prime example of another good blue card. Imagine some convo me on there, then it would essentially be a "wreck-your-opponent's-face-for-zero-mana" card. :)

April 22, 2015 10:14 p.m.

Convoke*, not convo me

saj0219, that sounds like one of the most awesome moments ever. I want it.

KillDatBUG, well, there are some advantages that each holds over the others, but in my opinion, you're completely right.

Mind's Desire is one of my favorites.

April 22, 2015 10:19 p.m.

FAMOUSWATERMELON, looks interesting, I'mma have to find some way to exploit that card a bit . . . Muhahahaha . . .

I'm so glad I made this forum. Now I get to see a bunch of blue cards that I had no idea existed until now!

April 22, 2015 10:22 p.m.

Oh, that's already done :)

My personal favorite blue card is Misthollow Griffin but I am biased as a food chain combo player and the fact of how entertaining it is to see the look on an opponent's face as you lack part of your combo and go with the back up plan of attacking with 4 cmc 3/3 fliers.

I love Gush. If you play it right, its basically a baby Ancestral Recall. Or Treasure Cruise, which virtually IS Ancestral Recall

I'm actually surprised no one has mentioned Omniscience, Consecrated Sphinx, or Mana Drain, not to mention Time Walk.

NoviceMagician here's something that came to my mind;

Midnight Guard and Ornithopter in play. Cast Retraction Helix on Midnight Guard, tap to return Ornithopter to hand. Cast Ornithopter untapping Midnight Guard. Repeat as many times as you like, then cast Mind's Desire and play out however much of your deck you want to.

I'm sure there are better ways, but I don't play much Modern so I went with a current Standard combo I know of to up the Storm count!

Stasis is by far my fav blue card :)

GeeksterPlays says... #28

Oh god yes +1 for Stasis. the look on my opponent's faces when I drop that in my Derevi, Empyrial Tactician EDH games is priceless xD

April 23, 2015 6:53 a.m.

All these cards are pretty cool!

Sounds interesting, I might have to try that sometime GeeksterPlays!

smackjack, Stasis is definately a fun one to throw down. Especially when your opponent doesn't understand why you played it, then you get to see their confused face. ;)

Gspot, yeah, the main point of the forum is to ask people what the best blue cards are, but I also asked the question because I was curious. But anyways, I would love Snapcaster Mage a billion times more of a could afford it!

Index is a pretty cool one.
