All CaleyCo Industries-sponsored article series (including the draft debate and deckbuilder's challenge) are Delay ed for three turns, and by turns I mean days. Return on Monday.

Your personal opinion peeps, do you think the new scry lands will enhance 3 color decks? Or will it just keep the 2 color power going strong? (UWr, UWb, BWG, etc)

I know I would personally love to see the rise of Junk Midrange/Junk Control. Especially with Obzedat leading the way.

It's hard to say without knowing what else we will see in Born of the Gods. Specifically, how heavily will the minor gods incentivize two color decks.

Well I bet we will see xenagos as the green red god.

Personally I hate that WOTC is doing it again. Again they release the dual-lands 5-3-2. Is there any rational reasoning behind this, other than pissing players off who like to play the unreleased color-combinations? (Some may have noticed over time: I really do like Golgari...). All my anticipation with BOTG is destroyed now. I bet the golgari-demi-god will be a useless timmy-card... frustrated right now...

December 22, 2013 12:17 p.m.

I don't think the demigods will vary too much in terms of economy, just like the mono-colored gods are all in the same cmc range, no matter the color.

ShadowLand says... #8

Yes, but some of them are clearly more powerful than the others, I'm right there with you Putrefy , its irritating as crap

December 22, 2013 2:38 p.m.

the3rdH0kage says... #9

They released the lands 5/3/2 because Theros block is a Large-Small-Small block.Putrefy There wasn't enough space in Born of the Gods for 5 rare lands.

ShadowLand says... #10

@ the3rdH0kage, you don't think it was to limit the effectiveness of two potential powerhouses right now? Azorius and Golgari are missing just a couple of key elements to make dangerous decks. Limiting the effectiveness of their mana pool set those combos back quite a bit.

December 22, 2013 4:46 p.m.

The new lands will give bant decks a 12-scryland manabase. Bant's my favorite, so I'm curious to see the cards for those colors. I hope there will be more scry-triggering cards coming.

I was looking forward to experiment with a RUG Flamespeaker Adept deck, but that's going to have to wait then...

@ ShadowLand

Which ones do you consider too weak?

December 22, 2013 5:06 p.m.

the3rdH0kage says... #12

@ ShadowLand I think every deck has an answer so having a deck being a powerhouse will give people the initiative to find the answer. Besides did Wizards know that Azorius was going to be so big?? I thought the same thing last Standard season with the Esper Control list (I was playing Naya Blitz at the time) and people dug and dug for the nswer to it, and iirc the Aristocrats was the answer to it.

Fair enough the3rdH0kage, I was just curious for input, I was wondering if anyone else had a theory on why the B/G, W/U Scry lands would be the last

also Triforce-Finder, I think Nylea and Heliod were less powered than the rest, in order of affecting game state I would say they rank as follows

  1. Thassa, God of the Sea
  2. Purphoros, God of the Forge
  3. Erebos, God of the Dead
  4. Heliod, God of the Sun
  5. Nylea, God of the Hunt

Not at any of them downright suck, but there are ones that have a way bigger affect and are more powerful

ShadowLand W/U is in BOTG, The ones for this set are B/R, W/U, G/W, Journey into Nyx will have G/B, and U/R.

December 22, 2013 7:27 p.m.

@ shadowland

I see. That's the same way I'd judge them, especially when considering the overpriced activated abilities of nylea and heliod. Alone, that is. With their weapons included in the calculation, especially nylea is a lot more effective. Bow of Nylea has extreme synergy with nyleas trample as it also grants attackers deathtouch, and the activated ability is a one-card toolbox. Spear of Heliod isn't bad either, Hammer of Purphoros is horrible in comparison. Thassa on the other hand has a good weapon too, so blue has indeed some advantage.

I think this set will open alot. Remember too, the third set may give us mono scry like New Benalia ...

kyuuri117 says... #20

Don't understand why everyone is assuming that just because Wizards has only spoiled three of the scry lands, that they won't be releasing all 5 in BOTG. Not saying they will, but assuming they won't just because they haven't spoiled them is somewhat ridiculous. Unless, of course, they have released some sort of article confirming this, but I haven't seen something like that.

ShadowLand says... #21

Neither have I kyuuri117, and I am still of the slight opinion that they will release all 5 in BNG.

cr14mson says... #22

so it's gonna be 5-3-2? not 5-5-10? NOOOOOOO!

January 7, 2014 6:52 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #23

We don't know yet cr14mson, that's what is being said.

also, what would 5-5-10 represent? Just curious about what the 10 would be

January 7, 2014 8:47 p.m.

ryuzaki32667 says... #24

probably reference to current Rav block, that had possability of all ten shocks in DGM

January 7, 2014 8:51 p.m.

cr14mson says... #25

yup, exactly what I meant. thanks ryuzaki32667!

on a side note, I'm a returning player and just started last Nov. I bought a booster box of Dragon's Maze and was able to get 3-4 copies of EACH guildgate. sadly, just one shockland. lol

January 7, 2014 9:20 p.m.

ShadowLand says... #26

Yeah, I always felt that set was a little underwhelming on the shock lands. I opened so many packs and never got a shock land. They were like mythics in DGM. Which I can sort of understand, if they flooded the market with them they would have dropped a ton in value.

I feel you DukeNicky, I want the golgari one really bad as well!

January 8, 2014 5:17 a.m.

LNT-Master says... #29

Yes its gonna be 5-3-2. Since Springleaf Drum is #162 and the 3 scrylands make up 163, 164, and 165, its a pretty safe bet, Those card number spoilers have been out for almost a month now. Don't know why Kyuuri questioned only 3 lands this go around..
