What cards do you think are underrated. Mine is Mantis Rider flying, haste, and vigilance in a set with convoke, so good.

Isn't Mantis Rider seeing decent play in Top 8 Jeskai decks?

Pretty sure it's not, actually. Lightning Strike and Bile Blight as four of's in most decks has all but made mantis rider worthless these days. The jeskai decks these days are working with Outpost Siege and tokens, because early it provides card advantage, and if you ever have more creatures out than your opponent's life total, it provides the win. Much better than a 3/3.

Hm. I saw a few decks on MTGTop8 running it, but I'm also not very attuned to the constructed meta, so I will defer to you.

I typically play competitive EDH, and I don't see many people taking advantage of the good non-blue counterspells. Red Elemental Blast, Pyroblast, and Guttural Response all do work at the tournament level.

Murderous Cut, Dispel, Pithing Needle, Seismic Assault, Sudden Death, Sudden Shock, Gifts Ungiven (As a value, FoF-like, card rather than a combo piece), Illusory Angel.

Terribly sorry for the doublepost.

Yea in recent months the jeskai decks have moved away from Mantis Rider for the most part. They either go token ascendency combo, or token aggro. On a similar note, abzan has moved away from Wingmate Roc because it's become so much harder to trigger raid now that most decks have at least as much removal as creatures, usually more.

It's not that they aren't good cards or are underrated, it just that they aren't at their best currently.

Modern is a format full of under appreciated cards. Mirran Crusader, Woolly Thoctar, Murderous Cut. Lots of stuff

Depending on format...

Mana Echoes, Spirit Link, Amulet of Vigor (kinda), Karn, Silver Golem

Not saying ppl dont play those but often they seem to only see "the tip of the iceberg"

dragon_slayer the Baneslayer's $12 price tag might tend to disagree with you on that one. Lmao

True lol

I haven't seen the angel in many modern lists though

Dunno, I actually feel Baneslayer's pretty overrated.

A 5 mana 5/5 flying firststriking lifelinker.

Its incredibly efficient, It blocks Rhinos and stuff efficiently but can be soft to Discard, Lily and the Non abrubt Decay removal from Junk decks.

dragon_slayer says... #17

But is it played in many (competitive) decks?

February 27, 2015 7:20 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #18

No it's not played at all. But it deserves its lack of attention. It's a 5 mana card that dies to 1 mana removal and doesn't have any enter-the-battlefield effect or any way to gain immediate value. I don't know about you guys but I don't generally like giving my opponent an pseudo extra turn for 1 mana.

I would say it's neither under- nor over-rated. It doesn't get much attention but it doesn't deserve much attention.

That is a fair point.

bijschjdbcd says... #21

Oh its too slow for Modern but it is still a good card.

Misanthropia says... #22

Dunno, it just gets outclassed by Batterskull in the games where you want that effect.
