TRIBE PRIDE!

Thought I'd generate some discussion on what people generally believe there favorite MTG Tribe to be/play with? Whether it's most fun/powerful or synergistic it doesnt matter... what Tribe gets your Vote as your favorite and why?

Mine would probably be Treefolk: It was the first Tribal/Theme deck I ever made and will always have a special place in my heart.

DRAGONS!!Specifically Jund and Temur dragons.

Planeswalkers? Are they a tribe? I like those.

If we're talking strictly things mutavault can be, then that would be wurm. Love em.

@Simon_Williamson yeah Dragons got some very NEEDED love during Tarkir in not only Dragon choices but means to make them more playable in general... when i roll dragons i am fond of Temur colors and uzing things like Silumgar's Scorn/Draconic Roar for some fun/themed utility :D

September 13, 2016 2:47 p.m.

Demons. There's very little tribal support for them, aside from Shadowborn Apostle and Kaalia of the Vast and a few Kamigawa cards, but I always like them. They tend to be large threats in my favorite color (black) with an interesting variety of abilities, downsides, etc. Treacherous Pit-Dweller I'm particularly fond of, along with Harvester of Souls.

Honorable mention to Zombies for putting out tokens I feel like I can get things done with. Having 2/2 base p/t along with a variety of lords feels so much better than say, spamming 1/1 goblins in hopes to just outnumber my opponent. Ghoulcaller Gisa is among my favoritest cards ever.

@DevoidMage wow...that kinda blew my mind in a philosophical way... are PW considered a Tribe? kinda riding a thin line but i think im gonna have to go with what you mentioned about "Talking strictly things mutavault can be" :p

Wurms eh? Didnt see that one coming... im not saying they dont exist I just personally never encountered a "wurm tribal" deck :p

September 13, 2016 2:53 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #8

@Tyrant-Thanatos Well spoken about demons in ALL aspects... i too enjoy the LARGE threats with unique abilities and downsides makes it very flavorful! also as you said its a SHAME There's very little tribal support for them :(

September 13, 2016 2:56 p.m.

I played Jund dragons from 2011 onward and it was the Khan's block that got me into Temur dragons, I have retired both EDH decks but I still absolutely love them.

For my second favourite tribe (which was mentioned by Icbrgr demons has one of my favourite commanders Rakdos the Defiler. Which makes Malfegor one of my pet cards and Baneslayer Angel a dick.

A not tribe I enjoy is fliers, not because of the evasion but because like Rebels, they have a badass tutoring commander in Isperia! And unlike slivers is not too linear.

September 13, 2016 3:07 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #10

@Simon_Williamson actually the Demons was Tyrant-Thanatos's Tribe of choice and I just acknowledged and seconded some good points about the tribe! akuna-ma-ta-ta

and yeah "fliers" totally isnt a tribe.... but ill give it to you that Isperia the Inscrutable is probably a fun General to Have in EDH.

Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero is what i assume the "Rebel" equivalent would be?

September 13, 2016 3:30 p.m.

Both of those are right, I didn't have the card makes off of the top of my head (even though they are both commanders of mine) and I'm on mobile so I couldn't just scroll for the name.

Allies. Allies all day every day. They are like less annoying slivers, so people don't hate you the second you pull out your deck.

Shameless promotion: Tazri's Army (COMPETITIVE EDH)

September 13, 2016 3:55 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #13

The struggle is real Simon_Williamson :p

September 13, 2016 3:59 p.m.

Enchantments. Not enchantment creatures, just enchantments like Lethal Vapors and such. It's a very fun deck to play and no one ever expects it nor has enough removal to handle it.

September 13, 2016 4 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #15

@primtj17 Great call! ive seen some MEAN Bant Ally decks in the modern format using Halimar Excavator!!! Never seen Ally EDH so im definitely gonna take a look at your deck :D

September 13, 2016 4:03 p.m.

I feel like allies are a more balanced (standard-wise) version of Rebels, which almost broke the game.

September 13, 2016 4:06 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #17

@Raging_Squiggle I believe strictly "Enchantment" like Lethal Vapors rather than an enchantment creature like Thassa, God of the Sea (stuff from the Nyx block) doesnt really fit here as "Tribal" however a nifty enchantment/pillowfort deck is always fun to see/play with... ive definitly had some fun brewing some of those decks but have yet to actually posses one of my own for personal use..... gotta admit though this is the first time ive seen/heard of Lethal Vapors though.. that looks like a SPECTACULAR/make-the-opposition-rage-quit kinda enchantment :p

September 13, 2016 4:15 p.m.

Lethal Vapors is amazing. Pithing Needle it and grind the game to a halt.

But pure enchantment themed decks are actually pretty strong. Cards like Argothian Enchantress, and Daxos the Returned make them a very real deck theme. Especially Starfield of Nyx.

Maybe not a "tribe" in the strictest sense, but closer to one than most other deck builds.

September 13, 2016 4:21 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #19

very well put Tyrant-Thanatos...ENCHANTMENT LIVES MATTER!!! :p

September 13, 2016 4:31 p.m.

Ledian says... #20

Wurms. They are just so fun to play.

September 13, 2016 4:47 p.m.

The best part of Lethal Vapors is if you gain control of an opponent's turn, perhaps from Mindslaver, you can force them to activate its ability, then in response activate the ability again, then in response do it again for like 1,000,000 times. Doing this will force that opponent to skip their next 1,000,000 turns because skipping the turn is part of the effect, not the cost. :p

September 13, 2016 4:51 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #22

@Ledian Your vote #2 for WURMS! Go wurms go! I guess i gotta check out the Wurm scene cuz again ive never encountered wurm tribal... gonna check into it for sure!

September 13, 2016 5:02 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #23

@Raging_Squiggle that sounds DIABOLICAL ... I love it... :D

September 13, 2016 5:03 p.m.

Treefolk, because a good defense is the best offense

September 13, 2016 7:04 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #25

@McSleuthburger yessssss!!! That high toughness is so nice!!! Doran, the Siege Tower or Assault Formation can really change things :P but my personal champion of the treefolk is Leaf-Crowned Elder!

September 13, 2016 7:26 p.m.

Cats are awesome! Great leaders Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and Brimaz, King of Oreskos commanding life-gaining, token-dropping, ass-kicking felines!

September 13, 2016 7:31 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #27

@TheDwarvenAxe nice one! I do like the combo of lifegain and token generation for true swarm style!

@Ledian that looks so cool! Never knew wurms had such COOL abilities with them!

September 13, 2016 8:33 p.m.

If you decide to make a wurm deck, then by nature you must include at least one Autochthon Wurm.

September 13, 2016 8:39 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #31

And Asceticism or Privileged Position... They seem to be like trying to cast eldrazi!

September 13, 2016 8:53 p.m.

Ledian says... #32

One of my favorite cards is Elderscale Wurm because with the deck, when someone attacks your for lethal you can flash in elderscale in response and watch as your oponent's face fall realizing they have no awnser for it.

September 13, 2016 9 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #33

@Ledian yeah that was actually my favorite part of your deck

September 13, 2016 9:07 p.m.

Ledian says... #34

Yeah that's fun. I think that artifacts are a really close second, stuff like thopters and myrs.

September 13, 2016 9:13 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #35

@Ledian I can dig me some Myrs... Ever since I came across Myr Battlesphere I have made a solemn vow to make a myr deck ... Idk why I just find that card hilarious :P

September 13, 2016 9:22 p.m.

Because it's literally just a bunch of myr's holding hands and steam rolling everything in their path.

September 13, 2016 9:42 p.m.

@Raging_Squiggle.... I admit to nothing... :P

Spirits are my favorite tribe. Especially the ones from Kamigawa.

September 13, 2016 9:59 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #39

@Ghosthunter39 yeah I have a U/W spirit deck that is TONS of fun to play with :D The kamigawa block gave some pretty neat selection of spirits to choose from and lots of neat legendary spirits... I kinda liked the divinity counters on those MYOJIN spirits and always thought it would be cool to abuse That Which Was Taken with them.

September 13, 2016 10:07 p.m.

Dromar39 says... #40

I liked the Onnas (Yuki-Onna for example)

September 13, 2016 10:19 p.m.

aholder7 says... #41

its not my favorite, but i do enjoy knowing that Ouphe is a tribe.

September 13, 2016 10:21 p.m.

tempest says... #42

Mine would be soldiers and elves, but those are quite common, so I'll say illusions instead. Cheap large bodies with downsides negated by Lord of the Unreal is just pure value. Chronozoa is my favorite :D

September 13, 2016 10:24 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #43

@aholder7 ouphe threw me for a loop! Honestly outside of Kitchen Finks I don't even know of any others off the top of my head :P

September 13, 2016 10:29 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #44

@tempest no shame in loving "common tribes" :P however I do LOVE me some illusion tribal! Blue aggro? Whaaaa!!???? Chronozoa is no doubt a neat member of that team

September 13, 2016 10:33 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #45

@ghosthunter13 I think I will have to investigate those onnas more with effects like that Yuki-Onna... Neat!

September 13, 2016 10:39 p.m.

Icbrgr says... #46

I mean @Ghosthunter39

September 13, 2016 10:41 p.m.

Ledian says... #47

Ooh That reminds me of the clone tribe. I have been heavily debating whither or not to make a troll deck with them.

September 13, 2016 11:17 p.m.

aholder7 says... #48

dont forget the most tribal tribe. changeling

September 13, 2016 11:31 p.m.

aholder7 says... #49

also @Icbrgr, theres Spellwild Ouphe which is pretty interesting in concept. also a few other niche cards. they are more abundant than youd think. also the fact that there are several Lhurgoyfs out there, makes that a technically viable tribe. would be a difficult tribal deck to build and it has no support, but it would be interesting.

I was introduced into magic with the Legions zombie themed intro pack. I always loved zombies since. Soulless One, Gempalm Polluter, Noxious Ghoul. But I am perfectly willing to by into something new and the recently printed spirits and vampires have also been very sweet and look like oodles of fun to play with.

I have a slew of different lists for modern for the many many many many many tribes. I love tribes as they were a big focus of the Onslaught block I came into.
