To which God do you pray?

Just curious as to who everybody's favourite God is and why?

How do you play with them? Do you go for devotion, or use them strictly as utility? How many do you run? Is there something about the Lore you just love? Or do you think they're just a waste of time?

This can be for any format, any playstyle, whatever. I'm curious as to how people make the most use of these cards.

I personally love Xenagos, God of Revels . He is very underplayed IMO, being able to give a fatty haste and double their damage can simply steal games in one turn. The 5cmc is amazing, and it's usually easy to plop him in the curve at a decent spot. I rarely ever use him as a creature, but rather just a combat trick of sorts. I run him in my two decks that use his colors, and would probably put him in ANY R/G deck I make. Decks are below if you want to check them out.

I'm really found of all the gods that touch red really, getting devotion for mogis is super easy in my minotaur deck, and i love the clock he creates. Purphoros is tons of fun with tokens and burn but he almost never sees creature status from me, and finally iroas's static ability is just the just the bee's knees in my aurelia, war leader/ battalion deck <3 also, hitting him with a boros charm for double strike? Indestructable 7/4 with double strike that can only blocked by two creatures. Pure love.

Definitely Erebos, God of the Dead . Anti-life gain is AMAZING and with the rotation of Underworld Connections , black needs all the card advantage we can get. I've had him in a black devotion deck in the past, pre-rotation. Post rotation I run him in my sideboard for the two reasons I stated above. The deck is

Pre rotation I played GU devotion and Nylea was my go to god (dess). Not sure why they made all the gods masculine when a few are clearly feminine. I liked giving all my creatures trample and a possible pump all combined with a 6/6 body that can't be "hurt".

Now I have moved toward RUG (Temur is a stupid name). I dropped Nylea for Surrak since he provides bbetter mass abilities with trample and uncounterable. I do however use Keranos as a pure utility engine. He rare has the option to attack or black but he pairs well with Courser allowing me to set up my next draws. Need damage, play the land off the top. Want the life gain? Draw the land, you know it's there anyway and then I get the next card, too. I don't care if he swings, he is just an advantage engine for me and a clock for you. I like Thassa, too, for the utility, but I would prefer to be able to animate her and 5 blue is kind of hard to do right now. I am working on breaking that shit for current standard, thought. I hope the next 2 sets give us some better UU or even UUU permanents that are playable since word is only Khans is wedge.

That all said, I wouldn't feel right now giving a shout out to the best of the best when discussing dieties: God, Yaweh, Allah, Elohim, etc etc! Can't stop that force. /

:) I like the idea of wedge...but the mana base to be consistent is completely retarded expensive. Haha.

Xenagos, God of Revels is my commander in my edh deck. When I first got into magic I was given a R/G deck to use, although I've moved on to other colors and decks I have a nostalgia and love for Gruul beatdowns. Xenagos perfectly represents all that those colors entail. It's just fun to be losing a game then Tooth and Nail for Worldspine Wurm and Craterhoof Behemoth and swing for upwards of ridiculous/lethal trample damage. People's faces are priceless!

Revels and Beatdowns. It's still a work in progress as I'm acquiring cards.

Also, turn 3 Xenagos, God of Revels turn 4 Kalonian Hydra swing in for 12 trample was my favorite play when it was standard. That just happened..

Honestly, my favorite god is Kruphix, God of Horizons . i have a commander deck with him that just breaks everything, because 3000 mana turn 8 is really punishing (yeah I did that). plus all of the cards in hand. Wins

Honestly, no max hand size is cool, but what do you do with all that colorless mana in EDH in those colors? It's not like you have a Fireball available. I'm wondering what you do for 3000 cmc

caprion85, you won't have to if you play standard, haha, my whole deck rotated out minus Iroas. Often Aurelia is what would bring in the amount of devotion needed to make Iroas a creature, so i had an extra combat step after ;) i really miss Ash Zealot and Boros Reckoner , oh and Legion Loyalist i can't quite get anything as fast and mean and often indestructable in the current meta. But if anyone could look at my deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/09-10-14-rabble-rakdos/ i'd sure appreciate it _

@Oxbones

To link your deck, you have a couple options:

  1. [ [deck:09-10-14-rabble-rakdos] ] nets you this Rabble rakdos
  2. [ [deck-large:09-10-14-rabble-rakdos] ] gives you:
