That 1 random common/uncommon

Ok I am currently working on a deck and this happens often with me when im working on a deck but there always seems to be that one common/uncommon that you seem to see a crap load of and when you need it its nowhere to be found. I coulda swore I had like 20 copies of Buried Ruin . Does this seem to happen to anyone else when you go to build a deck?
This has happened to me before with Rogue's Passage , Selesnya Keyrune , and many others. It's always "Okay, I've opened ten-thousand packs of [Insert block here], where the hell are they!?" hahaha

Well you would think in my vast collection of over 25000 cards you would think I might by some chance find most of what I need. What I need is to get rid of all of this so that I dont spend like 6 hours looking for 7 commons.

I actually just recently went through my entire collection and kept a playset of everything and boxed the rest away into storage. it's so much simpler now, but took several days of work...

Oh man, this sounds so familiar. And then as soon as you cave and spend $2 on the cards, the very next time you go through your stuff, its right there

I needed a Striking Sliver , and I couldn't find one. I opened everything. Pre-release, a fat pack, another sealed tournament, and there are no Striking Sliver . So I give in and buy it online (my nearest LGS in 30 mins. away), and six random booster packs, and then I open a Deck Builder's Toolkit (don't ask why), and in the "Slivers" semi-random section, there is a single Striking Sliver .
So, end of story: The Striking Sliver takes about a month to arrive.

When I started out, I was suggested to get Oblivion Ring . For a large amount of time, I always asked my LGS owner if he had any, but the answer was always no. It went on and on. Eventually, I managed to buy a couple off a guy at the LGS. 2 months from rotation. That day that, my INN-RTR Standard deck became complete.
Within 2 months from rotation...
And my collection is still pretty small, but this thread is making me realize that I should really get a decent way to store my cards by colour or something. Maybe I finally have an excuse to go buy the Theros holiday gift box, lol.

I store my cards in binders to avoid this all together. And I constantly evaluate my cards and get rid of things I know I'll never use/trade.

That is a good setup but its hard to do when you get past 1000 cards.

Agreed. I used to be a collector like that, now I only keep cards that I'll trade/hold value, or are different mods for existing decks. Keeps the collection low. I'm down to 3 ultra pro leather binders and 13 decks. I used to have Thousands and thousands of cards.

Actually, the way i get around this little problem is that i have all my cards (11,000 ish) in boxes, seperated by color and in order by set. And i've got all of THAT cataloged on the website deckbox. That way when the time comes to find one random common/uncommon in that huge collection all i need to do is go to deckbox, find the card, check and see what set i have the card from and then dig through the right section in the box.
But that set up took forever to get working. and i started it when i was at about 7000 cards.

Yes, oh my goodness, this happens all the time. In fact just yesterday, I was finishing off my Pauper Caw Blade deck, and It seriously took me 2 hours to find a single copy of Riot Gear ...
Also Cloudfin Raptor when I was making mono blue a few weeks ago. I guess I didn't actually open up as much Gatecrash as I had thought.

I dread trying to find "that one card" and then while i'm looking for it, i say to myself i need to organize my cards better. Then i find it, and never organize. When will i learn?

I had trouble finding Tragic Slip last season when I decided to start playing black. I've also had trouble finding Read the Bones this season. And then as soon as I got all the copies I need, they're everywhere.
