Random Combo ft. Kytheon, Hero of Akros

Step 1: Flip into Gideon.

Step 2: Use the 0 ability. He is now a 4/4 Human Soldier with indestructible.

Step 3: Moonmist. Your Kytheon now has 3 loyalty counters on him.

Step 4: Vorel of the Hull Clade. Use the ability as much as you'd like.

Step 5: Moonmist again. Or just transform him like normal, doesn't matter.

Profit.

Not sure what applications this has for anything, but... it works.

you could go U/W or W/G with Gilder Bairn!

I like the tap ability more than the untap ability because that would require some way to tap it besides attacking, because its body is rather small. The ability costs 1 more anyway. But to allow it to be in colors other than Bant sounds like a reasonable exchange. Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip is good, as stated earlier.

Also, with Gilder Bairn, you could just double the counters on Gideon, Battle-Forged itself and not even worry about flipping it into Kytheon in the first place.

I don't think this would work because Moonmists transform doesnt apply to these Planeswalkers. They follow a different process

Moonmist just says "Transform all Humans." While Gideon is a 4/4 Human Soldier planeswalker with indestructible, he is still a Human, regardless if he's a creature or not. Hope that helps.

@ApocryphalSaint Well using moonmist on these flip creatures regularly doesn't work because they will transform and die because pw get their loyalty on ETB, not flip. (Hence the exile/return to battlefield clause in their cards.)

Gideon is a special case because he can be a human creature with the potential to transform and he will transform back to kytheon with moonmist and retain all of his loyalty counters since flipping doesn't remove the card from the battlefield and in turn doesn't remove counters.

however, if you try to transform kytheon back to gideon regularly, he will be exiled and lose all of the loyalty counters you doubled with vorel. You'd have to moonmist again just so you can keep the counters from kytheon back to gideon.

Unfortunatley gideon has no - abilities to really abuse the counters... whomp whomp

Well, the only thing wrong with your original post is that you can't transform him like normal at the end. He'd be exiled then enter with 3 again. But yeah, it looks like the wording on transform's rules allows this to work. I don't think it's very good, but it is legal

Edit: ninja'd

Yeah, the combo has no real applications other than using his +2 to eat up big creatures I guess... I just see it as a wacky synergy across sets that got my inner Johnny going.

Ah, the beauty of Magic: the Gathering :D

It'll confuse the fuck out of you're opponent while they wait for you to kill them with some weird ass combo you just continue to attack for the win while they're just scratching there head in confusion!

So what I'm getting out of this thread is we need to put a Moonmist on a Isochron Scepter and make some sort of strange indestructible-aggro/turbo-fog hybrid. Thoughts?

Lol'd.

June 19, 2015 10:56 a.m.

Transforming him normally would remove the counters.

Yeah, I realize that now. Thanks for pointing it out though!
