Pronunciations and Card Names you miss say.

I often find myself calling Noble Hierarch 'Notable Hierarch' and for a long time called Omniscience 'Omni Science' Does anyone else trip over card names like this, and if so, are any of them funny?

I can usually pronounce words, but I've messed up reading them before. For the longest time I thought Ravnica was Ravinica (note the extra i). Then I went to buy some packs and asked for Ravinica and the guy had no idea what I was talking about until I pointed to it...

Another card that that I hear a lot of different pronunciations for is Rancor . I typically pronounce it like the Rancor from Star Wars.

Omni Science is da bomb! I sued to say that until my friends started making fun of me. Now I'm the only one pronouncing it properly in my group... Also, I'm European, but I live in the States. My native language is phonetic, so sometimes English just doesn't make sense to me. Like the word cation, a positively charged ion, is pronounced cat-ion when normal rules of English should have the word pronounced something more akin to cashion. Your language is odd.

@TheDevicer: I have lived in the United States my entire life. I am an English major at a university. I can absolutely promise you that this language is complete bullshit. Also, I usually pronounce cation as cashion as well. But that might be because I really suck as science.

slightly unrelated, my group has actually come to pronounce common cards oddly on purpose. i.e. Swamp = Swermp, Island = is land.

Don't get me wrong, I love English. I'm actually really proficient at it because I study and read a lot, but I make the occasional mishap. It also creates these situations where I pick up on a word through repeat exposure and context clues but have no idea on how to pronounce it. Take the word hiatus, for example. Not a complex one, but you don't hear it often. I thought it was pronounced hia-tus but there's actually emphasis on the letter A. I never thought you would pronounce it hi-a-tus.

My friend often pronounced Solemn Simulacrum without the a so it was more Solemn Sim-ulc-Rum. He did it so much I started pronouncing it that way too until I actually looked at the card and went "there's an A in there!!". Now I pronounce it as Sim-u-LA-crum

Also, I pronounce Caryatid as Car-ya-tid.. I know I'm wrong now, but the way they were pronouncing "carry-ya-tid" on the PTKTK coverage sounded horrible haha

Cat-oh-bleh-pos is how I've always said it.But the SCG stream bugs the ever loving hell out of me with their pronunciations.
Domri Rade is NOT dome-ree rod, and any incarnation of Garruk is NOT Guh-ruuk. Phonetics tell us that those are both incorrect. I would much rather hear Gar-ruk, than the ever hideous guh-ruuk.

Since I'm based in Germany there are some funny misreads and mispronunciations happening at times. Sadly most of them in my playgroup happened with German cards, but I'll try to let you have fun with these misreads that became jokes: In German Inkmoth Nexus is called "Tintenmotten-Nexus", which got misread as "Tittenmotten-Nexus" in my playgroup and spawned laughter since "Titten" is a colloquial term for breasts. Also, and similarly childish, Elite Vanguard is called "Elite Vorhut" in German, which is easily misread as "Elite Vorhaut" translating to "Elite Foreskin". Also all iterations of Sarkhan Vol will be called Serkhan, which is a Turkish first name, and Swamp s are referred to as "Schwamps" (which doesn't mean anything, but sounds funny). Lastly we pronounce Island s as it would be read in German, which leads to the German name for Iceland.

I kept pronouncing and spelling Abzan as Azban.
I got a foil Rakshasa Deathdealer at fnm during draft, and kept saying Rakshaka or Rasaka.

It's "jit-tay" I believe. At least, that sounds the most correct to me.
Garruk has an emphasis on the a, not the u. I hate you people.
Domri Rade is pronounced like dome-ri. The last name is probably just raid, but ra-day works too.
I try to pronounce card names in the most un-American way I can, because that just feels the most right. We Americans be butchering all kinds of shit.

My playgroup has taken to called Griselbrand Griselbanned, since he's banned in commander, but that misstating is on purpose. There's also a guy I know who was writing a proxy for Omniscience and since he's slightly dyslexic, he started writing it and ended up with Omnomnomniscience.
Other notable ones have been "silence the beliebers" and "Azban".
Also, we can't agree on how to pronounce Kaalia. Is it call-ia or kAl-ia?

Weird, I'm British and I pronounce it kAA-lia. The emphasis is definitely on the a in the name.

I thought abzan was pronounced azban, at least it is easier to type (switch the "z" and "b"). Goblin Flectomancer vs Goblin Electromancer . I will say this though, how do you pronounce Umezawa's Jitte . It is hard to have this discussion without people sounding the word out with vocals, though there is no definite way to say, "jitte".
Is it "gee-tay", is it, "jit" is it "jit-tay"
