Idk about you Guys, But im Really Feeling the Need to have a New Block set In A Egyptian Like Plane. Focus More on Sphinxes for Blue. Jackal Soliders and Mummies for Black,Or a Plane Based on The Call of Cthuhulu (Mispelt im sorry.)

And a reprint of Library of Alexandria ....joking.

An Egyptian-like Plane sounds like a good idea, but it almost might feel like a "Return To -" for Arabian Nights. Since most players have not been playing for that long it actually won't be a bad idea necessarily. I would personally love a Return to Kamigawa to be honest. I doubt they'll do anything "Return to -" since the last block was Return to Ravnica. I won't be surprised if Wizards makes a whole new plane for the next one like they did with Theros.

I'm hoping for a return to zendikar.

The Scars block was kind of a "Return to Mirrodin", and that was two blocks before Return to Ravnica. Maybe they'll keep up that trend.

Return to Zendikar would be cool. I'm still wanting some kind of reincarnation of Urza though...

My buddy and I were talking earlier bout how awesome bringing urza back would be

They've been going in a pattern for recent block production. New block, revisit block, new block, etc. New Zendikar to revisited Mirrodin to new Innistrad to revisited Ravnica to new Theros (correct me if I'm wrong). I assume the new block will be a revisited block. They've gone from Mirrodin to Ravnica but completely jumped Kamigawa. I assume it's because of the dislike for Kamigawa, and though I would personally love to see Kamigawa again, I doubt it would happen. I think they'll try Lorwyn next, but who knows. I'd really dig a revisited block, though. Theros didn't do it for me at all and I like the revisit flavor on top of its usually well done design.

Maro has repeatedly said that the "new block, return block" pattern is not intentional. For what that is worth.

Also, Zendikar was kind of Call of Cthulu (the Eldrazi, mainly).

A revisit to Lorwyn would make a lot of sense for Modern too codebread. I think there were more cards from the Lorwyn block reprinted in Modern Masters than any other block.

Do you think they would do a Return to Alara Block? That block, alongside the original Ravnica, popularized the Three colored decks (Naya, Bant, etc.) just like how Ravnica really popularized the two color decks. I would love to see a revisit to Alara, that and Kamigawa. I've only started playing when M14 came out, so I would love to get a feel of an old set like I got from Return to Ravnica.

Most of my "inside" sense comes from listening to Mark Rosewater's "drive to work" podcast...

Well we know Huey-block should be a bottom-up newly designed setting (like Zendikar) spearheaded by the fellas that did early early stuff for Theros. I don't think we've had any hints as to the design of Blood-block or Lock-block. I'm not sure where that would put us in the seven-year plan, but Maro seems to be getting ready to draft a new seven-year plan. He has said that there will be top-down design (ala Innistrad and Theros) in the future since it has been very successful by all measures.

The gambler in me wants to guess, though, so here's my outline: Mystic Warlords of Ka'a (Huey), New or Return-to Tribal Block(Blood), Steam/Magipunk Western Top-Down (Lock), Return to Zendikar (2017-18), Norse or Egyptian Mythology Top-Down (18-19), New Graveyard-centric block (19-20), Rereturn to Mirrodin/ Artifact Block (21-22)

I think it'd be cool if they brought back Urza and Mishra... pretty sure their plane was destroyed but still, them dudes were powerful

RCMetalhead says... #15

@Panda213: As cool as that would be, I don't think they can bring back Urza if they wanted to. I'm not too familiar with the lore and story of Magic, but wasn't Urza a planeswalker before the Melding (or whatever it's called I forgot), where after that even all the planeswalkers became much more weaker compared to what the planeswalkers before that event. That's why we have the current planeswalkers as actual cards, because they're not as powerful as the old planeswalker. The only exception in my opinion is Nicol Bolas, since he was one of the older planeswalkers as well, but lost a lot of his former power. I can be completely wrong but aren't I on the right track somewhat?

GoldGhost012 says... #16

Yes RCMetalhead, you are on the right track.

Urza is gone. His essence has ceased to exist. Just before he died, he was only alive within the Weakstone and the Mightstone. Then his spark got passed to Karn, who later gave it up to mend the time rift above Tolaria.

Although I have to wonder is Sorin was also a Walker pre-Mending, since he's the second-oldest living Planeswalker.

Oh, shows how much I know :p I knew phyrexia invaded and they had to destroy dominera (<-- probly spelled way wrong) but not much more than that... from the sounds of it, it'd be pretty hard to bring him back.

Revisitng Urza Would make me The Happiest Honestly. but Kamigawa or Ice ag would be Excellent.

GoldGhost012 says... #19

Panda213, Dominaria wasn't destroyed during the Brother's War or the Phyrexian Invasion, but it came close both times. Which in turn set it up for almost being destroyed by time rifts, completely throwing the Multiverse into planar chaos and the complete destruction of time. Dominaria is basically the center of the Multiverse- if it goes, the Multiverse will tear itself apart. Wizards loves to almost destroy the most important plane in Magic, don't they? :)

I've actually wondered about a combination of Arabian Nights and Three Kingdoms...Essentially making it a "Silk Road"-esque set. Lots of changes need to be made of course. Maybe the Han Chinese Analogues could be the Kor (primarily in White and Blue), the Arabs could be Humans (primarily in Red and Green), the Ghouls could be a faction to themselves called "Ghul" (most in black) and plenty of other things like Djinn, Ifreets, Orient-styled Dragons...etc etc.
