Vorthos challenge: most mentioned characters in flavor text

Hi,

Is there a list or record containing the most referred / mentioned characters of the mtg multiverse in the cards' flavor text?

I’ve looked around the web several times trying to find something similar to it, with no luck.

I've never seen anything like that. Scryfall search syntax may allow a search like that ... and even if not, it might be worth checking with the team there, as there could be enough interest for them to code it up.

If you end up needing to Brute Force it, best bet may be to pull the JSON database, get a list and count of words with capital letters in the flavor text field, and then manually filter out non-names ...

In Scryfall, there is indeed search syntax for that, with the "lore:x" tag. The best bet is likely a Gatewatch member or Weatherlight saga character (my money is on Urza).

Challenge accepted. The MTGJSON database doesn't have flavor text, so I'll have to use the Scryfall API (which looks like I can only get 175 cards at a time...yikes). I'll check back if I get an answer, but it might be a while...

EDIT: Looks like Scryfall does have a bulk file instead, that should be much easier.

UPDATE: results are in, with an interesting winner:

https://pastebin.com/ZxgMbNEH (site keeps removing hyperlink for some reason)

Note: This essentially just includes any words that aren't in the English dictionary, so non-character words were included (Orzhov, Izzet, etc.)

Thank you very much for your prompt replies, particularly to you, ninjaclevs13. When you said "it might be a while", I didn't think you would manage to accomplish the task so quickly!

Seriously, thank you very much ninjaclevs13 :)

Challenge completed! :D
