List of Planeswalkers by Home Plane
Posted on Jan. 21, 2017, 2:57 p.m. by DemonDragonJ
Now that planeswalkers are a card type in this game, and are major characters in the story, I believe that it would be good to have a list of them by their plane of origin, to make it easier to keep track of them all. Therefore, this thread is such a list (which I probably should have made long ago).
I will include only planeswalkers who have been depicted in cards in the game, since there would be too many to list if I also included those who have not yet been depicted in cards. I will first list all the planes known to have currently-depicted planeswalkers in alphabetical order by name, and then list the planeswalkers from that plane, in alphabetical order by name. If the planeswalker is from a specific region of the plane or belongs to a specific faction on that plane, I will list the region or faction in parenthesis, after their name.
Ajani Goldmane (Naya)
Freyalise (Llanowar and Terisiare)
Jaya Ballard (Terisiare)
Lord Windgrace (Urborg)
Plane of Mountains and Seas
Domri Rade (Gruul)
Ral Zarek (Izzet)
Sarkahn Vol (Mardu)
Kytheon Iora/Gideon Jura
What does everyone else say about this list? How did I do with it? Have I missed any planeswalkers or incorrectly listed their plane of origin?
I could've sworn there was another thread similar to this one on this website. However, after 30 seconds of not finding it, I gave up.
But here's the link to the complete list of planeswalkers: http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/List_of_planeswalkers

Eiti3, that list is very comprehensive, but does not list them by home plane, which was my main goal for this thread.
Also, as new planeswalkers are added to the game, I shall add them to this list, so is there any way that this thread can be made a sticky, so that it is always at the top of the page?

It has been stated that Kaya is not from Fiora. Source. The lore on her can be found in the articles at the end. They say she's not from Fiora in the first one, I believe.

Part of the problem with this list is for some walkers where we first encounter them is NOT where they are from and we don't always know where they are from.
For example, until Theros we didn't know that's where Gideon was from. We would naturally assume he was from Bant. Additionally, some planeswalkers choose to make a home on the first plane they walk to meaning that could throw things off as well.
Also, you are missing Bolas

When you say "depicted in cards," I assume you mean ones that have their own Planeswalker card, and not just creature versions, right? If not, Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer was a planeswalker for about 5 minutes or so! Jeska, Warrior Adept, Jaya Ballard, Task Mage, and Grandmother Sengir (Ravi Sengir) also have cards!

I'm sure by cards, you specifically mean with the card type "planeswalker"? Also, I'm relatively sure Karn was made in Tolaria, if you're going into specifics on each plane.

Phaetion, I did not know that, so I shall edit my first post to reflect that information; thank you very much.
metalmagic, yes, I am specifically referring to characters who have been depicted on planeswalker cards, so the charatcers whom you mentioned do not qualify for this thread.
wbroomhead, thank you for that information.

As Ohthenoises has pointed out, Bolas is missing. I'm glad this list is here, though! Great job!

Koth isn't from mirrodin.
See this is the problem like I mentioned before. Koth CREATED mirrodin while he was already a planeswalker.
January 23, 2017 12:28 a.m.
Ohthenoises, Karn created Mirrodin, and Koth was born there, centuries later.

That's what I get for trying to read cards at 12.30 am. Misread Koth as Karn, apologies.

Is there a way to keep this thread at the top of the page? I will be updating it every time that a new planeswalker is added to the game, and I do not wish to search for it whenever I need to do that.

I just added Samut to this list, as she is the newest planeswalker in this game.

Only a little nitpick, but Freyalise wasn't born in Llanowar. She was born in the continent of Terisiare, in the now forgotten kingdom of Storgard.
August 11, 2017 3:19 p.m.
Firebeard, I did not know that, but, before I edit the first post, is she not most strongly associated with Llanowar?
August 11, 2017 3:44 p.m.
DemonDragonJ well, yes, she was worshipped almost like a goddess by the elves of Llanowar.
August 11, 2017 3:48 p.m.
Firebeard, in that case, perhaps I shall list both locations after her name, since she is associated with both of them.

I saw that you got multiple requests in one of your other threads to remake this in "decklist" format. I wouldn't blame you if you don't bother, but, just in case, I do have a list of every planeswalker (List: Did We Just Become Superfriends?) that you could copy and add custom categories to (without having to enter every single card). Just a thought. Thanks for all your hard work either way. =)

With the release of Ixalan, I have now added Huatli to this list.
October 16, 2017 9:46 a.m.
With the release of Rivals of Ixalan, I have added Angrath to this list.
January 6, 2018 12:57 a.m.
Bolas is one of the 5 elder dragons of dominaria, his home plane
January 25, 2018 2:50 p.m.
With the upcoming release of Dominaria, I have added Jaya Ballard to this list.
yobkay, has that been definitively confirmed?
April 15, 2018 8:28 p.m.
Forgive the double-post, but I am not including Urza, Academy Headmaster on this list, because that card is from an un-set.
April 15, 2018 8:29 p.m.
With the upcoming release of Battlebond, I have added Will Kenrith and Rowan Kenrith to this list, and, with the upcoming release of the Global Series, I have also added Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling to this list.
May 22, 2018 9:41 p.m.
With recent revelations, I have added Vivien Reid to this list, and changed Ugin's home plane to Dominaria.
June 18, 2018 9:57 p.m.
You still have Nicol Bolas as Unknown, when he is from Dominaria. This has been true since Legends, and not changed with the divide between Pre- and Post-Revisionist histories.
June 22, 2018 8:14 p.m.
berryjon, thank you very much for mentioning that, and I have amended the list.
June 23, 2018 12:32 a.m.
With the upcoming release of Commander 2018, I have added Aminatou, Estrid, and Lord Windgrace to this list; of those three, only Windgrace's home plane is known (Dominaria), as there currently is no information about Aminatou or Estrid's home planes.
July 28, 2018 12:54 a.m.
I recently learned that Jiang Yanggu and Mu Yanling are from a plane known as the Plane of Mountains and Seas, so I have updated this list to reflect that status.
April 1, 2019 10:11 p.m.
With War of the Spark soon to be released, I have added Teyo Verada, Kasmina, Davriel, and the Wanderer to this list.
