is this possibly the most pointless card ever?

Land Grant

I mean, really? Does it even do anything that having a forest instead wouldn't?

Yes. Basically, deck thinning. That's all it's good for I'm afraid. Plus, in decks running low on mana (my elves) it would help by letting me search for the 1 green mana I need to start things off

Deck thinning 1 or 2 or even 4 cards out makes almost no difference (aside from maybe placebo effect) and if you were running low on mana, why wouldn't you just have a forest in place of this card? I just think Wizards played a little joke with this one.

There are far worse cards in magic than this (look at most of the creatures in the Legends set). The biggest weakness of aggro decks is losing hand advantage, and nothing infuriates this more than drawing another land when you need to be playing spells. Anything that stops that from happening is a worthwhile card. Plus this card has a really easy way to be played for 0 mana, which is good on any card

For a question like this, which has more of a discussion please take it to the forumsa and not in the Q&A.

Thank you. :)

It has a massive, massive use in legacy limited land decks, where deck thinning plays a much more important role.

If you only have ten lands in your entire deck, Land Grant will grab one for you. Take Bayou , Tropical Island , Savannah and Overgrown Tomb , which are "forest" cards, and dual lands to boot. You can only have four of each of these in your deck, but Land Grant doubles the possibility of having one pop out.

Deck thinning usually has minimal effect, true, but if I only had 10 lands in the first place, it makes a huge difference. take a look at my legacy infect deck, Incurable infection, which can demonstrate Land Grant s usage much better than I could hope to explain!

One with Nothing usually gets the award for worst card, or Leveler

haha yeah those are all hilarious. I just happened upon Leveler today when i was searching the gatherer for level up cards. Has anyone found a use for that? i mean, maybe if you could then cast something to shuffle a big graveyard into your library, but it would be a pretty epic combo for a 10/10 with no abilities.

Look back through KrazyCaley's challenges, there was one where the deck had to contain 4x One with Nothing AND 4x Leveler . Some people came up with interesting comboes and tricks with both of them

i believe you can Stifle leveler's exile your library ability but i'm not 100% sure about that

but you could also play cards like Words of War and card:Yawgmoth's Bargain to stop you from drawing that game losing card. there is plenty of ways to deal with the leveler

Wow nicely done. leveler doesn't suck so much after all. Now someone come up with a kickass combo for Wood Elemental where somehow sacrificing untapped forests isn't such a bad thing.

look on squire1 's profile for a deck with the name "i've got wood elemental" this will probably be one of the better wood elemental decks you see

theres a card, it imprints i guess, a card from your deck facedown. when the card leaves play your opponent gets the exiled card. i forget the name of the card, any ideas?
