In a perfect MM15

let's say you could make five changes to MM15 to make it better, what would you have done?

I would have

1) Lightning Bolt at common, replacing Gut Shot

2) Serum Visions at uncommon, replacing Lightning Bolt's spot

3) slightly more limited print run, just to justify price

4) removed a foil in EVERY PACK-- it brings down their overall value

5) Let's face it, no Comet Storm. Put in, oh I don't know Liliana of the Veil because there were two walkers last time!

Other than these five, I say the set was pretty good! How about you?

Except Liliana of the Veil is outside of MM2's scope.

You also have to strike a balance with the print run. Keep in mind that a lot of the run is being used as prize support and is not actually being distributed as salable product. Now, WOTC did just announce that the run is being renewed, so we'll have to see what kind of numbers we're actually talking now, but I don't think further limiting the print run is better for the game or the community.

As for the foils, that's one of the main selling points of the product. Chances of getting high-value foils are still fairly low, so I don't think it's really that unfair to have a foil slot in every pack.

Needs more Scapeshift and filter lands.

Well considering Liliana wasn't eligible in the first place might as well throw in snapcaster mage.

Lightning Bolt at common is too good for limited. They've been trying to weaken common removal.

Well-said, GlistenerAgent.

Strange that a major archetype staple like Scapeshift was left out of the set...

Snapcaster Mage is also ineligible...

Also, what TurboFagoot said. Modern Masters sets, like all other sets, are designed with Limited as the primary focus. Granted, you didn't give a reason for why you think your proposed changes should have been made, but you can't just modify the rarities of cards without changing the Limited environment as a result.

...and there are two walkers this time. Karn and Tezz.

needs more EDH appeal.

bigguy99 says... #11

No, it doesn't. The set is called Modern Masters, not EDH Masters.

I think it already has a lot of EDH appeal.

Karn, Titans and power cards for each colour. I don't know what I'd add to give it the appeal you're looking for, derp.

Yeah. If you're into that look at Conspiracy instead.

I feel like limiting the print run even more than it already is completely voids the entire point of the set bro. Just saying. Plus why do you want to take out the foils? It seems rather arbitrary.

As for your changes, I feel like I would have kept the price at 6.99 a pack rather than the $10 a pack they arbitrarily bumped it up to. You get no discount on a box anyway, so selling packs at 250% of the value of a normal pack to start off with, with such a wild variation in pulls is goofy.

Beyond that, I would have preferred a vastly larger number of hard to get playable commons and uncommons. That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

They did a great thing for the mythics and some of the rares in terms of pricing and availability. The commons and uncommons though, kind of missed the ball on that swing. 10-15 dollar commons are just stupid.

So yeah, I like the set plenty. Love what it's doing for accessibility. Still not going to go buy any and probably won't draft any either.

Realistically; They Probably should have put Gitaxian Probe in there.

Unrealistically; I would have loved to see shock lands instead of stupid poopy bounce lands.

  • Reduced the variance in worth of the rares. Possibly not included as many super value rares but also excluded the utter trash. An overall decrease in rare value but also more consistency in the quality of rare.

  • Removed comet storm from the mythics.

  • Lowered pack price slightly. $7.50 would be nice.

  • Kept the print run the same.

Epochalyptik - You have source for renewed print run?

ChiefBell: I'm sure there's a more official source, but here's a link that talks about it

JRaynor says... #19

Seriously. I'm not going to get back into it but Comet storm... Comet storm. So bad.

May 26, 2015 6:36 a.m.

kyuuri117 says... #20

Ok lets be fair. Comet Storm is one of the best cards you can pull in this limited format, second only to Profane Command. If you have it in your deck and you draw it, you shouldn't lose. If it had been printed at rare, the format would not have been balanced.

...But printing it at mythic kinda felt like a slap in the face to the people buying the cards. I think that they should just not have printed it in general, used Urabrask or Kiki instead.
