How much time per day do you dedicate to magic?

Two questions.

  • How much time per day/week do you dedicate to playing magic / trading cards / building decks with friends in real life? (Specifically time you spend with friends that involves sharing your interest in Magic: the Gathering)
  • How often do you find yourself checking tappedout?

For me, I spend a lot of time on magic. I'm at my LGS almost every day for a few hours hanging out with some of my best friends, playing magic, trading cards, theory-crafting decks etc. I also find myself checking tappedout once every morning, not throughout the day, but then I check it again when I get home. How does that compare to you?

Well, because I don't really have anyone to play with recently (I'm going to college, and so is my local playgroup), I haven't been spending as much time as I want to be.

In an ideal situation, I used to play a few hours with my friends three to four times a week, and then as well FNM every week. Once I get to college, I plan to be at my LGS a good amount of the time for FNMs and Tuesday Night Magic play for modern.

On here, I like to be very active and try and help people out, and as well learn about stuff too.

Magic is a lifestyle, and I choose for it to be apart of mine. And I definitely don't regret it :)

I tend to lurk in the background of tappedout a lot, and check up on various threads I follow. I also do lots of playtesting both online and in real life with my various token decks. Magic is a significant portion of my life, and I spend a lot of my time doing magic related activities, even if it is as simple as browsing this site. The majority of my mobile data use on my phone goes to browsing this site actually haha.

I really only play Thursday nights for my LGS' Modern night. I spend much more time on here, watching twitch streams, and reading articles.

I play Magic at school, and occasionally at my LGS. (There's one within walking distance of my house/school, but it's not very good. So, I prefer one 15-20 min away.)

I do a lot of T/Oing and online Magic though. I accept Magic as a big part of my lifestyle.

4-5hrs at the LGS on most Tuesdays and Fridays. Depending on what's going on and my schedule I play in IQs, PPTQs, and draft on the weekend. That typically amounts to between 5 and 20 hours.

Due to spending most of my day in an office on a computer and my OCD I typically check TO hourly during the day.

I spend time on here daily, and I have a 3 hour group that I go to at my local coffee shop for a couple of hours on fridays. Not a sanctioned event but it's better than nothing.

I spend maybe once a week playing casual games of 60card or edh. Not much there. Maybe 4 hours tops

Tappedout i check periodically every day just about all day. Mostly just to see about interesting threads though. Sometimes to move stuff around or do other tasks. I rarely edit decks anymore

I catch up with my brother every few weeks or so to play a few games of mtg. I used to play more when I was a substitute teacher who could leave work at work. Since picking up full time teaching, I usually have other stuff to do during lgs events, have had to move to a new town, and have watched most of the people I had played with leave the game.

I still find it relaxing to play decks against each other after a full day of healthy work, exercise, and social interaction. I do this in place of TV and videogames.

Thursdays I play EDH with my friends for about 4-6 hours, and I do FNM on Fridays for also about 4-6 hours so an average of 10 hours a week playing and I spend about an hour daily play testing decks for a total of about 17 hours a week playing magic. Then for T/O I check it almost every hour at work...

I physically play once a weekend for modern events mostly. Sometimes if I don't have to work, I will go to hang out or play EDH.

If there is a legacy event or an IQ for standard, I will make exceptions.

I check TO quite a bit. I do not trade anymore though, since i move cards around pretty frequently. I check the site in the morning, after my workout whilst drinking coffee and getting ready for work. During the days and evenings, I read every fuckin article that gets released from online stores. I check decklists, and read forums for competitive tech and spec on investments. Then at some point before I go to bed I watch YouTube videos of modern and legacy matches.

On the weekends when I am not playing, I watch whatever twitch channel/stream is hosting the current "big" tournament. Unless it's a limited format, that stuff is too boring for me.

If I had to guess, I do MTG related things about 75% of my time awake. Which is roughly as much time as the average teenage boy spends jacking off.

Sounds about right.

I probably play three times a month for about two hours total or so. But I'm on here often. I don't spend much time deckbuilding since I'm content with my current decks.

I only get to play the game once a week, for a few hours at FNM normally. I am usually lurking around on tappedout throughout the day, and I check the site everyday. I do a LOT of theory building for multiple formats, but rarely do they come to fruitition because money.

Well I'm on here all the time checking things so like possibly 3 hours in total on T/O. I also read wizards articles daily as well as keeping up with tolarinan community college. Playing magic in real life though I do that far less often than I would like. I usually do about 3 hours on Sunday at my lgs. Once school starts 2 hours on Thursdays because that's when my schools game club meets. So yeah maybe 5 hours a week at best? Though I have been playing a fair amount of Duels though as its improved my game sense and decision making quite a bit. I'll spend maybe an hour a day doing that.

August 26, 2015 10:41 p.m.

gnarlicide yeah mtgo would probably end my marriage.

So glad to see all the replies. I had predicted that players spend more time on tappedout than actually playing, and I think I'm right. I feel like this site is one of the best social networks out there, and I'm glad I'm part of it.

Other than playing Rocket League every other night, Magic is basically all I do.

Servo_Token says... #25

I play usually about 6-10 hours every day but Sunday and Wednesday. Monday Tuesday Thursday i'm at my shop doing shop things and playing with customers for about 5 hours, on top of the two to five hours I spend at home brewing decks, reading articles, and watching videos. Friday is FNM which is like 6 hours plus about two hours beforehand prepping. Saturday, if i'm not at a big tourney (10+ hours), i'm at home taking in content and or brewing usually for about 6 hours.

So basically I spend on a slow week 35 hours a week playing Magic. If there's a big big event coming up, like an open or GP, that number can hit like 50 hours.

I forgot to mention I spend at least an hour a day watching magic streams and YouTube videos so there's also that...

  • Actual physical Magic: Once a week tops, but then several hours.
  • Digital Magic via v2.untap.in: Average once a day, maybe for an hour or so.
  • Building decks on TO: When I have a good idea, so maybe once or twice a month, but then I spend days on it.
  • Watching game footage: Very little. Left guy played a card. Right guy played a card. Which card? Can't say for sure, it's too friggin small!
  • Watching Videos on Youtube: Whenever the channels I've subscribed to have something interesting. Dies to Removal is fun to listen.
  • Checking, reading and occasionally posting on TO: Repeatedly over the course of the day, between five seconds and ten minutes at once.
  • Buying cards: Once or twice a month, tops. Takes about an hour or two.
  • Sorting the cards I pulled out back into my storage: Not as often as I should. Definitely not as often as I should.
