The cards that work best are Conspiracy and Artificial Evolution .

Mistform Wakecaster and Mirror Entity wouldn't cause a feedback loop, since they can't change creature type as a state-based effect, nor by changing the text.

I don't understand why Mistform Wakecaster and Mirror Entity would not work. I understand you gave a valid reason, but could you explain it more in depth?

I can the wolves have to be ally's when they hit the field not afterward if they changed after they hit the field the effect of the other ally's wont trigger

Guardian - (When you summon [this creature], you may have it guard another creature. If the guarded creature would take damage from another creature, you may choose to have [this creature] fight the attacker before any other damage is dealt.)

I know its lengthy, but I think it would be a cool mechanic to give to some walls or 1/1s with deathtouch. Thoughts and suggestions on shortening wanted!

This seems reminiscent of Soulbond, so maybe try a similar wording to Soulbond? Like "You may pair this creature with another creature. If the paired creature would take combat damage, you may have [this creature] deal combat damage before the paired creature."

Not perfected, but I guess it's a start.

Gilenborn says... #13

I think this needs to be a noncombat thing, otherwise you could be giving additional combat phases (really just making the combat phase super complicated). Additionally, you already can block to prevent combat damage.

Guardian (This creature comes into play guarding another creature you control. If another creature would deal non-combat damage to the guarded creature, this creature fights the other creature instead.)

July 20, 2014 9:18 p.m.

How about "You may have this creature guard another creature. If that creature would take damage from another creature, you may have [this creature] fight the attacker as an interrupt."

July 20, 2014 9:20 p.m.

@Gilenborn its not an extra combat phase, its more like Hunt the Weak and similar cards but as an interrupt to save the creature that would die.

July 20, 2014 9:22 p.m.

like for example, if you have a 2/2 with a really awesome ability and a 1/1 with deathtouch and someone plays Hunt the Weak on their 2/2 and fights your 2/2, if you had your 1/1 come in as a Guardian for the 2/2, you can have it fight the attacker which would kill it and save your cool creature.

What colors get Guardian? B/c thematically it feels White, but the ability is more in Green/Red (hedging more towards G than R).

July 20, 2014 9:47 p.m.

I was thinking it would be white and green, with white being primarily defenders and green being primarily things that also have deathtouch

July 20, 2014 10:18 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #19

I'm pretty sure that White doesn't get the Fight mechanic, and it also doesn't make much sense since White doesn't get big enough creatures to actually matter. And as far as green getting Deathtouch+Guardian, I think that is a bit overpowered. If this was a set mechanic, I would be fine with it appearing on an uncommon and/or a rare but definitely not at common.

July 20, 2014 10:26 p.m.

well if its an uncommon or rare it should have a high power, high toughness, or deathtouch, but if its a common it would just be a 1/1 or 1/2 meat shield

Can you give us some examples of card ideas with Guardian?

July 20, 2014 11:15 p.m.

there's a scenario in the 5th comment... here's one

Protector of the Forest //
1 colorless, 1 forest // 1/2 // Guardian

use it on something like Varolz, the Scar-Striped so that you can keep it alive an extra turn.

Karametra's Thane // 2 colorless, 2 forest // 2/2 // Deathtouch, Guardian

JWiley129 says... #23

Quick templating note, you can just shortcut the mana cost by using 1G or 2GG for your two creatures. Second, I feel like the Thane should be like a 1/3 or a 1/2 because otherwise it could theoretically fight two dudes at once and still survive. Protector of the Forest seems fine, but you'd have to play with it some.

Also I wouldn't put Guardian on any creature with toughness >4 or indestructible. Those together are just too OP.

Gilenborn says... #24

I still think there should be a Non-combat damage clause on this ability, otherwise it will have the potential to make things too complicated. i.e. if a creature wit guardian blocks, and the guarded creature blocks, does the guardian fight the one then block the second? or would the guardian get removed from combat and only fight the second creature? if thats the case, is the first creature still blocked, or does its damage go through? (this is why most (I think all actually) fight cards are sorcery speed)

accelerando11 says... #25

Gilenborn - Arena , Contested Cliffs , Magus of the Arena , Mutant's Prey , Pit Fight , Triangle of War and Ulvenwald Tracker can all fight at instant speed.

I tried making a similar mechanic one time, but I found it was too complicated to actually work smoothly.

What about this?

Guardian (When this creature comes into play, you may pair it with another creature. If that creature would be dealt damage, you may instead have ~ be dealt that damage. If that creature would deal damage, instead you may have ~ deal damage equal to its power.)

or

Guardian (When this creature comes into play, you may pair it with another creature. If that creature would be dealt damage, you may instead have ~ be dealt that damage.)

It would simplify things by never saying that the guardian actually "fights" but is sacrificial to do/take the damage.

JWiley129 says... #27

I like MagicalHacker's 2nd solution. It makes the mechanic feel more White and doable w/o having any broken card interactions.

July 21, 2014 2:33 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #28

I found out how to word it right though!

Guardian (When this creature comes into play, you may pair it with another creature. If that creature would be dealt damage, you may instead redirect that damage to ~.)

... I think that's the right Magic grammar...

July 21, 2014 2:38 p.m.

thats good, but i was thinking of having it be not just for blockers but for things with deahtouch in order to eliminate the threat

July 24, 2014 10:06 p.m.

and for Jwiley, if any do have indestructable or a high toughness, theyd probably be legendary creatures or just really expensive

July 24, 2014 10:09 p.m.

for gilenborn - if you block with the guardian and the guarded, the guardians fight happens, then if it is still alive, you can choose to use its ability to block again. so i guess you could use guardians as double blockers. most of them wouldnt be tough enough for two fights though

July 24, 2014 10:15 p.m.

@magicalhacker that is more white, but it defeats the purpose of having guardians with deathtouch, like for green creatures. it does fit the name better though...and i like it more...

Thank you! The first one would work how you want, but it would need to be updated as well.

i like the idea, IMO it would be nice if it would be like

Guardian: when this creature comes to play you may guard another creature you control, whenever guarded creature dies or receives lethal damage, sacrifice its Guardian instead

and should be an ability more common on creatures with defender than any other creature type or color oriented

IMO the extra fight text is just too much since sounds like will be doing 2 abilities in one
