Foil alters?

So one of my friends was complaining about how he can't get foils for any of his commanders because they were never printed in foil. To get him to shut up, I'm wondering if anyone one knows of a place that does foil alters or can get foil cards done cuz it sounds super cool.

Yeah there's a process that I know very little about where you strip of the art off of a cheap foil and then print the art of the card you want on the foil. It's officially called proxying, but it's very VERY illegal since you basically make a fake magic card.
How old are his commanders that none of them are available foil?! XD

Well they're ones that have been printed in only commander sets so it's stuff like Roon, Oloro, Feldon and Sygg, River Cutthroat which apparently don't have foil versions.

Yeah the special printer thing then.
I think you need a specific type of printer cause laser prints don't work I think.

Full art painted alters are my way of averting the Non-Foil problem for my cube. Its pricey tho, even extended border is pricey from a good artist.
Otherwise there are ebay sellers and sites that print foil art over the top of the real card. They cut out the area around the name and card text etc so u can see all the real deal which means they are usually legal as they are normal enough to not be confusing etc, again, these are pricey, and usually only the most popular ones r available too.
Its an option tho!:-)

@TheDevicer I personally don't really like foils either, the cards are warped and they are too shiny to see clearly. Normally I try to trade my foils for non-foils of the same card and the extra value difference.

For EDH you could always use a proxy foil from Amazon or ebay. I do that with my Jace, Liliana and Gaea's cradle. Yea I have the cards but I don't want to put them in.

You just need to wipe the images off of existing foil cards and then print on the commanders. It just takes a good printer and some acetone.
