Brewing "challenges"

General forum

so, i was bored and thougth that "hey why don't i make a golgari deck, by just searching for cards in golgari colours, looking at what i have and trying to make a deck out of them. well, it wasn't the best deck for sure, (here it is if you want to check it out: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/random-golgari-midrange/)but it gave me an idea. what other brewing "challenges" could there be? well a youtuber by the name of strictly better mtg has made videos about decks wich only used mono colored junk rares, and that's like a brewing challenge. so, can you come up with other brewing challenges? let me know your ideas.

what about making a deck only with cards that are available with the pre 8th edition border?

You can try building decks completely around a certain keyword or creature type. You can also try making a deck according to a theme, like having all cards represent a character or thing from a movie/book/tv-show etc. Or you can just find a card that is normally unplayable, but try building a deck just to make that card work optimally.

How about building a deck that only uses colourless cards?

This probably wouldn't be possible, but it would be funny: A deck made only from cards on banned/restricted lists for all formats.

I've started building beginner decks based around bulk rares that I know nobody will ever trade for.

Make a deck that only has Clone Legion as a win-con, should be interesting.

Epochalyptik that sounds very similar to the Card Kingdom decks you can buy.

They are very Casual and we've been having loads of fun with them.

My favorite challenge for brewing is to take "unplayable" cards like Endless Whispers and put four of them in a deck. Close second is to build decks under $15 including lands.

For more cards like that, I've got a list at Wacky Combos: Builder's Resource.

You could build a deck with cards only from 1 set, I.E. only cards from Fate Reforged

Please, please, PLEASE build a deck with cards only from Fate Reforged.

I loved that set and you can use Ugin, the Spirit Dragon.

One of my favorite things to do is to choose a set (preferably an old one) and look through it for any potentially good cards. Then, make a deck out of them (That's how my current deck, Gro-bots (Developing competitive) started out

landofMordor I have always wanted to see Harmless Offering and Aggressive Mining together in a deck.

I'm sure there are some nasty Creatures you can make your Opponents take with Endless Whispers.

I used to like janky combos like that until I started to build more competitively.

Argy, I like to give opponents Phage the Untouchable. Or, in Modern, Phylactery Lich.

I bet Aggressive Mining would be a fun gift next to some mainboard Stone Rain...

I'm with you. I actually build the crazy combos only electronically to keep my creativity up. Then I apply the same principles to more competitive play, to help me find loopholes in dominant strategies and so forth.
