so what do you guys think are the best cards in each individual color? try colorless too. these are just some of my favorites. what are yours?
WHITE: Austere Command
BLUE: Jace, the Mind Sculptor
BLACK: Demonic Tutor
GREEN: Omnath, Locus of Mana
COLORLESS: Wurmcoil Engine

There have been countless forum posts about this. It's impossible to say; different cards are best in different circumstances. You could make cases for Mother of Runes, Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Cryptic Command, Force of Will, etc.

White: Swords to Plowshares
Blue: Ancestral Recall
Black: Demonic Tutor
Red: Lightning Bolt
Green: Abrupt Decay / Deathrite Shaman. Or if only monocolor then Oath of Druids.
Colorless: Mox Sapphire

I choose the above because they are the statistically most played cards in the most powerful format. You can't argue with the law of averages.

This isn't a super hard question. A much more interesting question would be what is the best card in each color in EDH/Modern/Legacy/Standard.
White: Balance this card is beyond broken. If you've never been Balanced out on turn one or two then you're lucky.
Green: Oath of Druids This card is also beyond busted. Being able to get a Grizzlebrand or Emmy for 
.
Blue: Ancestral Recall Duh. Just duh.
Red: Wheel of Fortune the second best of the wheel effects and does all kinds of crazy things with fast mana.
Black: Necro. This card singlehandedly almost destroyed magic. Drawing this many cards is way too undercosted.
Colorless: Black Lotus Again Duh.

Honestly, Black Lotus has to be the best COLORLESS card available. As for the other colors, I don't know. I could say though that Abyssal Persecutor has the greatest power for a black card.
