Are there any combos that require one player to cast 2 spells onto the stack

Example of an interaction that isn't a combo would be cast Kozilek, Butcher of Truth remand kozilek draw 5 cards.

But are there any combos that do this?

Paying 12 mana to draw 5 cards using a 2 card combo isn't a good deal. There are better ways to draw 5 cards with one card and less mana.

I assume you are referring to the act of holding priority.

Only has been relevant to me twice.

Holding priority to get more triggers off a Pyromancer Ascension.

And playing against a Runeflare Trap Combo deck and held priority to shave 2 Paths out of my hand.

I'm not aware of any that require 2 spells be put on the stack. However there are a few that require activations of abilities in response to spells or abilities from the same player.

Using Izzet Guildmage to copy Lava Spike with a spliced Desperate Ritual was a standard combo at one point.

As was Mirror Entity for 0 a large number of times in response to itself with Reveillark, Body Double and a 2 power or less creature with an ETB or LTB trigger that will win you the game.

sergiodelrio as I said its not a combo but an interaction, also it can be more than 2 spells

Poor wording from my side, sorry. I get what you mean, but I believe my point is still valid. If the interaction is not advantageous (as in stronger or more cost effective than you'd normally get without the interaction) the interaction is not worth it imho. And I'm just speaking of this particular one you mentioned. There certainly are lots. I can't think of card draw, but Path to Exile or Ghost Quarter alongside Shadow of Doubt comes to mind. Is that what you mean?

Do you need them to be spells, or do abilities count as well?

Spells or it'd be as simple as Sanguine Bond Exquisite Blood Lightning Bolt in response to triggers

Here's one I actually play:

Put Master Transmuter's ability on the stack, return her to your hand to pay the cost, respond with Fauna Shaman, discard the transmuter you just returned to your hand, pick a fatty (like Blightsteel Colossus) from your library, put the fatty on the battlefield as Master Transmuter's ability resolves.

Oblivion Ring, target X, then respond with Capsize or similar effect to bounce O-Ring. The stack order is now "Return X to the field" then "Exile X until O-Ring leaves." X is permanently exiled.

Azami that's not a combo, it's also not spells on the stack forming a combo, what it is is a spell followed by an activated ability interacting with a spell, it doesn't make a combo

Not sure it counts as a combo but e.g. you could cast an Epic spell and then Quicken into another Epic spell. This would require to put at least 2 spells onto the stack. :P

Thinking of Quicken, dash cast Mardu Shadowspear, keeping priority, cast Quicken, then Worldfire is an insta-win combo, although I guess you need a bit of set up to do that. :D

RussischerZar Mardu Shadowspear is a creature not a sorcery

April 20, 2015 7:45 a.m.

RussischerZar says... #21

@ tyforthevenom How is that relevant?

  1. Dash cast Mardu Shadowspear, keep priority
  2. Cast Quicken, let it resolve
  3. Cast Worldfire, let it resolve
  4. Let Mardu Shadowspear resolve
  5. ???
  6. Profit.

Here's one where retaining priority actually matters that's great in commander:

Have Ashnod's Altar/Phyrexian Altar in play. Play Mindslicer and give everyone a chance to counter it. If no one does, and Mindslicer doesn't trigger any enter the battlefield abilities, you can follow it up with a sorcery speed spell (preferably a draw spell or tutor) followed by a spell with split-second (Sudden Spoiling, I guess), and sacrifice Mindslicer as a mana ability while they're both on the stack. The discard trigger goes on the stack while spilt-second is in effect, so everyone has to discard their hands with no chance to respond at any time since Mindslicer came into play. Then your draw spell resolves and you get to refill your hand.
