A Crazy Idea

Has anyone heard of a MtG card database that is keyword searchable by artwork elements (ie, searching for 'fire' would find all cards that include fire in the artwork, etc)? If such a thing doesn't exist, any idea how much time/work it would take to create?

I have never heard of anything like that before. And while I like the idea of it, it would take a monumental amount of time. It pains me when I think of how long it would take.

I experience similar pains pondering this, but I'm captivated by the possibilities.

If only it were as easy to implement as it is to explain this idea. I don't really know about coding image recognition software but since it would be based on fantasy art instead of photographs I bet its even more challenging to do this sorta thing.

The problem with that is that you'd need to find every possible searchable keyword for each art for it to work well. It would take so much effort to do for very little reward

Well, it wouldn't all have to be done by one person. For example, if magiccards.info let users suggest tags for cards, then let the community mostly maintain them, it would be pretty easy.

That's a really good point. You could set it up and let it go and it may work well
