So game day is coming up this weekend, and I was wondering what you all would be running! Obviously your deck will have to include a decent amount of M15 cards, and I have a feeling many of you will show a majority of those through pain lands and the sort. Are there any new decks you expect to see on game day, or is there anything to prepare for? Will it be the age old Mono Black Devotion and Azorius/Esper Control, or will there be a new face in town? If the M15PT was any indication M15 didn't make a huge bump in the format. But what do you think? Will M15 bring about a bunch of new decks we'll see on game day, and what deck will you be running? I myself am running a deck you've probably see floating around the site I call "Devotion to Flyers" with a whopping twenty four m15 cards.

I expect that there will be a few U/R artifact decks and some mono-green monsters popping up too, but there will still be a big chunk of Black devotion and U/W/x control.

I'll be running a deck that includes Ensoul Artifact as well, but I'm not running the Saito list like you are. Mine is more of a brew, tweaked it to my local meta after a few nights of semi-casual tournaments at my LGS. It's beaten some hard hitting decks, notably Jund Monsters and U/W control.

Johnny5 I actually posted my list a couple days before the Saito article was posted, I was very disappointed lol. I was very proud of my brew, then come two days later an article comes up with almost a card by card copy list of mine and then everybody and their mother is running it on tappedout.

mpeach1 I don't know how other FNM's do it, but do you have to have a certain amount of M15 cards in your deck? I know at my LGS on gameday you have to have at least ten M15 cards (or whatever the current set it) in your deck.

@ Dalektable they just run it standard legal at my LGS for gameday, fortunately. I believe they do a modern gameday there as well, but I really only play standard so I can't vouch for that completely

The Grixis Mixes is what I'm playing because I don't play a lot of standard and it's what I have laying around. lol Janky deck ftw.

If I go, I'll probably just play mono black devotion because I'm a boring net-decker.

capriom85 I have a version of G/U Devotion that you might find interesting, I've won a few FNM's with it and I can attest to the fact that it is a powerhouse.

I've been loving G/B COnstellation lately. The way I run it, it's basically mono black aggro, replacing pain seer, thrill kill, and a few utility things with Blossoms, Doomwake Giant, and Strength from the fallen. Considering splashing blue and using some syncopates.

Johnny5, I like your version of GU Devotion. It's pretty varied from my version (which started as a RUG midrange build), but I can see where your power comes from. You have me thinking about Prime Speaker Zegana in my build as well. She was a huge powerhouse when I ran her in my Prime Speaker Bant midrange deck back during Inn/RtR block. My RUG build was 6-0ing my FNM for the last few weeks but I find the GU version a little more reliable without the Stormbreath Dragon s. My mana is easier fixed now and Hornet Queen deals with opposing flyers better anyway.

capriom85 Thanks for taking a look at my build, and I can tell you from the few matches I've recently played where I had Prime Speaker Zegana in the main it's made a world of difference. Sometimes, when you stick that turn 3 Polukranos, World Eater you just NEED to start drawing more cards so you can stick the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx you need to really start steamrolling. Chord of Calling for Zegana netting you 6 cards turns a match around real quick, and should put a Nykthos in your hand.

I started with some M15 cards, but they kind of fell out while I was building. I can see myself adding Sign in Blood if I feel like I need more card draw:

@mpeach1: Formats requiring a minimum number of cards from a given set haven't been a thing for at least 15 years. If that's what your LGS is doing then they aren't actually running a "Standard" event, and they shouldn't be sanctioning it as such.

August 8, 2014 10:07 a.m.

mpeach1 says... #23

That's what I'm saying, they DON'T require a minimum amount of cards from the set, it's just standard format. He thought I couldn't play my deck without a certain amount and I was saying it's just standard. @ Rhadamanthus

Well, I am an idiot and tagged the wrong user in my response.

@Dalektable: A format requiring a certain number of cards from a given set isn't a valid, sanctionable format. Your LGS shouldn't be running Game Day this way.
