3 Card Deck. What Would You Choose?

3 Card Blind is a type of magic where each player starts the game with 3 cards in hand and no other cards at all. Each player plays open handed and the game is not lost if you try to draw a card and fail (due to the fact that there is no library). Matches consist of 1 player going first in the first game, and then the other player going first in the next game. There is no third game - only two games!

Bare in mind Black Lotus is legal.

Some examples, as given by MTGS:
Black Lotus, Black Lotus, Visara the Dreadful
Black Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Aura of Silence
Golgari Rot Farm, Treetop Village, Putrefy

What would you pick? See if your choice of 3 beats my choice which is below:

There are actually loads of interesting combinations.

Yeah I wasn't sure whether Laboratory Maniac was legal or not in the format. It appears to be according to the banlist but does seem a little ridiculous. I think the format was invented in 2005, like waaaay before Maniac haha.

To be fair your hand does win of you go first as I'm assuming you don't draw naturally.

Yeah you just start with all 3 in hand and play open handed. It's a weird format but there's a lot you can do.

One of my other friends suggested:

Black Lotus, Black Lotus, Elspeth, Sun's Champion which seems great.

Also I like Mutavault, orzhov bounceland, Vindicate too.

Discard is really good in this format which make me think that your second pile is one of the better ones.

Island + Island + Storm Crow

For a slightly less unbeatable hand, I would chooseBlack Lotus + Black Lotus + Wurmcoil Engine

Black Lotus, Sphere of Resistance, Goblin Guide.

It'll take me 10 turns to kill ya, but I'll get there.

Black Lotus, Black Lotus, and Barren Glory? Insta-wins are broken in this format.

Too bad Misthollow Griffin doesn't cost 3. Then it + Force of Will + Black Lotus would be great.

Rhadamanthus Pretty good, but I think Dryad Arbor is a better choice than Memnite. Also, it would lose to sirbar's Black Lotus, Laboratory Maniac, Gitaxian Probe or something else that could burn that first spell and keep playing.

If we had the capacity to draw cards, this would be a pretty good one:

Academy Ruins, Dimir Aqueduct, Bottle Gnomes

Otherwise i'd have to go with that laboratory maniac one. Seems duper good.

What about the Hearthstone version, where each player has a full deck made up of two cards, repeated over and over? What would you choose?

The way it was explained there seems to still be a draw step, it is just that the SBA that you lose the game from attempting to draw from an empty library is ignored. As such Academy Ruins, Dimir Aqueduct, Bottle Gnomes would work. Leyline of Anticipation, Black Lotus, Laboratory Maniac would also be a decent combination if this is the case.

Black Lotus and Comparative Analysis. You force the opponent to draw two cards that aren't there. And you have room for another card, a recycler perhaps? or maybe a backup plan.

the game is not lost if you try to draw a card and fail

Otherwise it would just be "can the player on the draw win on their upkeep"

Ahh. ok. That makes this significantly more difficult. I have no idea what I would do then.

I would make infinite goblins Krenko, Mob Boss + Intruder Alarm +Skirk Fire Marshal and tap them and deal a butt load of damage!

How are you getting any of those cards into play?

I feel like Leyline of Anticipation is an absolute must. You could win so fast in this format that you need some sort of heads up on your opponent.

MaybeLeyline of Sanctity (Or something better Maybe Chancellor of the Annex)Black LotusPrimordial HydraUse hydra to stall for power then win?

Leyline of the MeekBlack LotusAjani, Caller of the Pride / Brimaz, King of Oreskos

Black LotusDack FaydenMemnite / Chancellor of the Forge

Black LotusBlack LotusAna Battlemage

Anurid ScavengerBlack Lotus(Almost anything can go here, Armor Thrull, Aven Riftwatcher, Ball Lightning, Arc Lightning, etc)

Dryad ArborMox SapphireResearchYou now have 4 turns to kill me, cause you know these 4 cards are going to hurt. Maybe something fun with Cackling Counterpart, Mirror Mockery, Biovisionary or Progenitor Mimic

Elixir of Immortality could create some fun sets.

another good disrupter could be Chancellor of the Annex

When all is said and done, we all need to aknowledge the best card for this: Labratory Maniac... and Cheatyface
