I love the kmc hyper matte sleeves but they only come in 80's and I want them for my first edh deck.....any suggestions on edh sleeves?

Buy 2 packs (lol). Anyway, Dragon Shield sleeves are pretty nice. you can get a pack of 100, too

Idk...I just dont like dragon shields as much as other people do they collect dirt like crazy and they wear a little quick for me.

Buy two packs, or pick up Dragon Shields. Some of the Dragon Shields have a similar feel, plus you get about 110 or so in the box.

Buying two (or three) gives you 60/40 extra sleeves (respectively) to work with in case they break or split. Use them as limited sleeves or to protect higher value cards in your binder.

In my experiences, I like KMC for constructed play, and dragonsheilds for EDH, so I would highly recommend dragonsheilds.

Buy two packs. That way you've 60 spares. Basically enough to sleeve an entire other deck, minus SB. Or you have extras on hand if a sleeve needs to be replaced.

The real trick is to only buy 1 brand and 1 color of sleves, forever. Then you dont need to care how many you get per pack, and you never have to unsleeve stuff to switch cards between decks or anything else. I dunno why more people dont do this...

@wish12oz: Because there's something to be said for variety. Why don't people only own clothes that match all the other clothes and accessories in their wardrobes?

wish12oz says... #10

I own like 10 pairs of the same jeans.

Seraphicate says... #11

I simply keep 1 pack of hypers spare in each colour that I use ... In the case that they break (haven't had a single one split on me yet) I'll always have extras to sleeve with.

I am actually the same as wish12oz I know it is lacking some variety but I got 5 100-packs of kmc hyper-matt black a year ago and I have never had sleeving issues since

I'd just like to chime in that dragonshields only get sticky if you aren't playing on clean surfaces with clean hands. In essence, the cleaner you are the less sticky and dirty they get.

I've got 14 edh decks and 4 standard decks in dragonshields and I haven't had any problems with dirt or stickyness.

TolarianCommunityCollege does product reviews on youtube. Probably want to check them out.

Ohthenoises I have seen a lot of his videos the only problem is his ratings on sleeves are very harsh its either dragonshield kmc hyper matte or nothing. My dragonshields are always played with clean hands on a clean playmat and they collect dirt like none other and wear quicker than any I have owned.

I think ultra pro slayers are 100 to a pack. I don't know if they are good or not though

October 29, 2014 9:37 a.m.

capriom85 says... #16

Or buy 2 packs and sleeve up a modern deck as well

October 29, 2014 9:37 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #17

EmblemMan Again, I have over 18 decks in dragonshields and the only ones that have given me issues is the white ones and that was before I was a cleaner player. (I would eat then touch my cards, I don't do that anymore.)

I have 2 decks in hyper matte and aside from the slicker mash shuffling I notice no difference.

I feel like TCC is right to say DS or KMC. Harsh is good, if you make a bad product people should know. cough ultra pro cough

October 29, 2014 9:38 a.m.

EmblemMan says... #18

Idk Ohthenoises ill try dragom shield for edh and see how they work because I definitely do not eat then touch my cards but still have a dirt problem. In accordance to TCC I understand there are bad products but theres good (kmc ds) and bad (ultra pro) but theres also fine like legion that are graded a bit harsh is all im saying.

Ohthenoises says... #19

I've had a lot of the bad experiences with peeling that TCC highlights with legion and others. (Admittedly I haven't tried the Legion Matte stuff.)

October 29, 2014 10:04 a.m.

Ohthenoises says... #20

Edit: I haven't tried the legion matte stuff because I'm scared off of the brand by the peeling on their normal ones.

October 29, 2014 10:06 a.m.

@Ohthenoises
I had a friend who used UltraPro sleeves on his FNM deck just to bother his opponents and get them annoyed when they tried to shuffle his deck. He was trying to make them play worse against him because they were annoyed or keep bad hands because they assumed he was a noob. I don't know if it had any impact on his rounds, though.

KMC caters directly to the constructed magic competitive player, which is why their stuff is such high quality and works so well for magic. It's not trying to be a catch all for every type of trading card or every type of deck. The very reason you want to use it: Because it's the best, is the very reason it is only available in 80 piece increments.

I agree with wish12oz. I love variety but I get plenty of variety in my actual deck of cards. In this case at least, I'm not willing to exchange the quality for variety. That being said, I don't see any reason you could just buy a couple packs of each color sleeve.

i buy mine in bulk, literally i buy a case build 15 decks and sleeve them all

November 13, 2014 5:54 a.m.

JakeHarlow says... #24

How many does a case include and how much does it cost?

November 13, 2014 10:17 a.m.

tyforthevenom says... #25

i buy about 50 packs and they just send a case idk if it is the size of an actual case but it's easier for me than just buying what i need as i need it and the empty box gives me more places to keep my bulk cards

November 13, 2014 10:20 a.m.

I definitely understand the argument for variety, and after going for that, I wish I hadn't. My initial thoughts as a newer player were to buy different sleeves to "individualize" each of my decks. Now, I wish all of my sleeves were flat black because it would just make things sooo much easier. No gunk issues, no "re-sleeving decks", no problems with numbers of certain sleeves I own... Sleeves are unlike clothes in that you really need 75-115 sleeves of all one color for any given deck (room in numbers is given for constructed vs. EDH), rather than a matching shirt and pants for any given day. If you never use different sleeves, it just makes sleeving decks easier to do. You can mix and match clothes and still pull something off, but not card sleeves.

This isn't even to mention that people you usually play with competitively (for example, people always recognize me at my LGS) won't know what deck you're playing if you sleeve all of your decks in the same color.

Man, now I wish I could just paint all of my sleeves flat black or something... XD

@tyforthevenom
I thought competitive 2v2 commander does. Huh. I guess it shows that I don't play EDH.

*1v1

Brain, what are you doing?

November 13, 2014 11:58 a.m.

JakeHarlow says... #30

There's a rule variant that allows for a 10-card SB, but it isn't considered a regular part of the format. But the option is there.

tyforthevenom, is there a volume discount on such a big order? 50 packs is quite a lot, since your average Hyper Mat pack of 80 is between $8-10 usually.

November 13, 2014 12:06 p.m.

The issues I've found with sleeving all my decks with the same color sleeves is I drop them or I'm playtesting or they get mixed up in my box and all of a sudden I've got to sort through 260 cards to find which decks are which.

November 13, 2014 12:11 p.m.

JakeHarlow says... #32

That's remedied by better organizational practices, I guess. Happens to me too, on occaison. :-/

JakeHarlow i dont get a direct discount instead i earn credit to my future transactions and because i buy so much stuff from magic madhouse that I built up enough credit for my manaless dredge decklist

I'm with wish12oz on this one - I use only black hyper matte + perfect size sleeves, and wear solid black 24/7. Something to be said for singular uniformity. That said though, my lgs breaks up the kmc packs into bundles of 20 to make it easier on edh players.
