Can anything beat Pirate Labs?

I have been researching good storage options for let's say 900+ (single) sleeved collection, with the following criteria.

  1. Cheap_ish_. $70 feels absurd but I am willing to pay up to that.

  2. Portability. I want to bring this places, able to carry it safely and without worry.

  3. Ease of use. This is for a cube, so I'd like cards to be easy to extract.

  4. Aesthetics. While It shouldn't matter, this is what I often use as a tie breaker.

So far the best fitting for these categories is the Pirate Labs 3 Row, seems very useful, although I can't help but feel that there is something I'm not considering. For $70 it can hold well over the minimum and can be carried just fine. Any thoughts?

I have those big long white generic cardboard boxes they sell for $5.

If you're not worried about looking homeless, you can always wrap the boxes in plastic wrap (for water defense), or, if you have the time and gumption, cover the outside in scotch/duct tape. They sell some pretty awesome color schemes in duct tape...

Ghetto as fuck, but hey. You gotta do what you gotta do. :)

Looks darn good. Never heard of them

This is intense. Many thousand dollar decks

Steelspike Actually not dissimilar to the set up I have now, I just thought something a bit more luxury (within reason) would be nice to have. I still had trouble buying singles over a dollar, just feels so wrong.

I have a 1600 count cardboard box I use at home to hold my decks. Sometimes I'll bring it places to play, trade, or work on decks elsewhere

I use these babies for just decks (edh)

greyninja Tolarian Community College has done a review and I've heard nothing but good things, product seems fine, just making sure there's not some new ass product that blows it out of the water.

I had one. It was good but the blue styrofoam stuff kinda flaked and got all over the place. I was putting in loose double sleeved cards though (no case) and I think that might have sliced up the styrofoam a bit

scrotality I was planning to use loose sleeved cards, thanks. I may have to reconsider (I was afraid the product was just meant for deck boxes).

Cardboard ho!

Simon_Williamson,

I too have those financial constraints. $3 is where I set the limit, arbitrary as it may be, there it is. But, I have no problem plunking down $100 on a booster box, or $40 on a pre-con commander deck... Such is life, eh?

I have a Command Tower for my tournament deck, and for the dice/tokens drawer. It's convenient. Other than that, I use the BCW Large fliptop boxes (~$2-$3) for my other finished commander decks. They fit double sleeved 100 card decks just fine, and I don't have a $2,000.00 deck. In fact, None of my current decks are over $200.00.

In retrospect, maybe I'm not the guy to talk to about high end protection for cards. :P

Ohthenoises Huh, seems interesting. I like the look of the box a lot and that it can hold loose cards without being torn to shreds, I have to admit the only things putting me off from it as an option were the price tag and the handle (which i now know can be positioned differently, in a not completely obnoxious position), thanks, now that I know that the Pirate Labs case isn't ideal, I believe this is the (high quality) cube case to beat.
