Which booster box to buy

I have some credit remaining with my Amazon account and I was thinking of ordering a booster box. The credit amount is at $100 so I do have a limit to how much the box can cost. I was thinking about getting a box of Kaladesh or Aether Revolt, but was not sure if that would be a good investment. I mostly play EDH, but may get into Frontier if my local shop starts having events for it. I have an itch to open some packs and the last booster box I opened was fun. I want to make sure I choose a box that will give me a reasonable return rate. I do realize that it is all luck, but also do not want to choose a box that has consistently low value. What do you all think?

Honestly this may sound like a broken record but if you're an edh player get a box of conspiracy 2. It's dirt cheap and honesty there are so many fun cards in there for edh and for drafting.

If you're big into EDH, had absolutely no restriction, and wanted the highest concentration of EDH staples, then there's probably no better set than Urza's Saga, but that's like 1K per box now or something.

But yeah, get Conspiracy 2. It's an amazingly fun draft set and has an ok amount of value. Aether revolt has about the same amount of EDH suitable cards though. Up to you.

If your looking for a decent return Leovold is in like 1 outta 3 or 1 outta 4 boxes of conspiracy and he's amazing in edh. You could also go for khans depending on the price

It really depends on what you are playing right now. If you're a standard player, Aether Revolt would probably be your best bet considering a lot of the cards are still at a decent value and it is an easier set to make profit off of.

For EDH, I agree with what everyone else is saying. Conspiracy 2 so much fun.

Any of the new Zendikar boxes will also give you a chance of getting an Expedition which will make you a lot of profit, and Kaladesh boxes will give you the chance for a Masterpiece.

It really all comes down to your needs and what you're playing currently. Personally, I would just buy singles, but if you're looking to open packs for fun, I would go for Kaladesh, Aether Revolt, or Conspiracy 2.

My last two booster boxes were pretty disappointing. My oath of the Gatewatch box was a Chandra, Flamecaller, Sphinx of the Final Word, and a Mirrorpool. Besides that all the Rares were essentially bulk, with the only one worth mentioning being a foil Needle Spires.

My more recent aether revolt box was a Herald of Anguish, Planar Bridge which I already had two of from prereleases and do I was a bit disappointed with that, followed by a Lightning Runner, and that other bulk red mythic, whatever it's called.

For Rares I had a Baral, Chief of Compliance, Aethersphere Harvester and a Oath of Ajani. 2 Fatal Push's and a Herald of Anguish in summary was the highlight of the box. The rest of the box isn't even worth any mention.

So unless you want plenty for standard, (I advise against it, it's tempting for the masterpieces I know, but most times it doesn't seem worth it), go with the earlier suggested conspiracy 2 box if you mostly play Edh.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I have been on the fence for a while with buying a box because I know buying singles is a much better route. Sucks when you enjoy the excitement of open packs but know you can get crap at the same time. I will look into the conspiracy 2 set if I do plan on buying one. I think my desire to open any of the newer sets is to get an expedition or masterpiece.....definitely not a good reason just to buy a box.

Strangely enough here has been my encounters with opening masterpieces/expeditions.

Like 2 1/2 years ago when I still was fairly new to magic I had my brother buy me 2 BFZ packs as a gift during the holidays and the second one turned out to be a Windswept Heath. I regret later when I knew its value selling it for some cards such as a Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Omnath, Locus of Mana, Sheoldred, Whispering One, Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur, Spawnsire of Ulamog, etc, which turned out to be a bad idea as me and several other friends only played casually and never was at first aware of formats such as Edh,standard and modern. Later when we became aware of standard, and modern I couldn't in fact use some of these cards either because they weren't all that viable or legal. Now I only have kept the Praetor's and sold the rest.

Then during Oath of the Gatewatch, I attended a Fnm where we did something a bit different for a draft. We did a "whacky draft" where everyone would get 3 standard legal packs, back when DTK was still around. It was absurd what I opened, first BFZ pack was a Prairie Stream expedition, followed by a Fetid Heath in the Gatewatch pack! My third DTK pack still turned out to be an Atarka's Command too. I should have kept these maybe for commander, but I traded them for a bunch of standard stuff which nearly all of it has gone down in value. Wish I had these still for my Atraxa Edh deck that I now have.

Next I got a Sword of Feast and Famine at my third Kaladesh prerelease of a day and as well as two other mythics (Noxious Gearhulk and a Metallurgic Summonings)in my other packs, with that I rather easily went 4-0!

As you can see, all of these have not been from booster boxes. I bought my first box from Oath of the Gatewatch, and my second with aether revolt and so far I have had no luck with opening another, so it's not worth buying one just in the hopes of getting one of those at all. I still want my masterpiece Wurmcoil Engine however :(
