So I know there has been a lot if discussion on it but I picked up 2 for my deck, at 23 or so, and I wanted to know, did I screw myself? Did I do ok? Or am I making a killing? Haha

I think it's gonna stabilize around $20 or so, so I don't think you did anything wrong. The card is staple in most formats. The Lorwyn one still has value and will always have more value than the Theros one, though.

You probably just spent a few more dollars than you would have a few months from now.

you did just fine. I dont see the new version jumping in price anywhere near 55 the original print is at. But 22-30 is a fair price point. Modern season is picking up so you should have a pretty good idea soon as to where it will end up.

Then again, no one knows how this will play out. That's just my opinion...

I mean I am happy as hell if the stick at 20 or 21, but I didn't pick em up for trade, got em to play, though I did pick one up to trade for 2 Erebos, God of the Dead , but I don't want 3 copies anyways haha

I believe they will go back up again after Theros rotates from standard but a year after that. I got mine at 19 and I see fluctuating roller coaster ride especially come the pro tours for standard with Thoughtseize more than likely being heavily used. Just my personal point of view though.

The issue with Thoughtseize and its price is that it's going to be in print for something like two years now. It's an excellent card, but the a largest contributing factors to it being a $65 were that the supply was low as it's initially from a set that came out right around 5-6 years ago (so it had been out of print for right around 2-3 years before Theros), and its demand is huge because 2 of the strongest modern decks in the current meta (Jund and Rock) both typically run 3-4 copies each. For an example on that last point, I think something like 6 of the top 8 decks at GP Detroit were either Jund or Rock.

fluffybunnypants sets stay in print for a yeah, so when Theros releases next week then RTR will be leaving print, so Lorwyn has been out of print for 5 years. Leaving print the day Shards of Alara came out. and Thoughtseize will stay around 20 until everyone realizes its a 4 of in mono black control. Then it will shoot up

They stay in print for a year. Stupid typo.

the3rdH0kage: I'm pretty sure everyone already knows that they're a 4 of in every deck running black.

I'm only running 2 copies, and that is by choice

You may want an extra 2 in the side.

I think that once people see the power of Thoughtseize in standard it will go up to $25-$27. (Theros copy that is)

September 24, 2013 10:52 a.m.

That's the thing. Most people already know.

Most people who have been playing competitive magic and have the modern cards yes. A lot of your "newbies" started around SOM and never got to play with them (this guy included - but I catch on pretty quickly lol)
