Hey all. I am not a standard player but I am really excited to try out Soulfire Grand Master in my modern home brew Boros burn deck. I know there's a lot of hype and such around this and he other Jeskai mythic Monastery Mentor and I know if I'm going to play with either of these cards I'll have to buy a playset of singles. So all you speculating experts, what do you project he path of these two cards prices are going to do. When will be the optimal time to buy? What's the lowest price going to be during it's time in standard ? Which of the two do you think is going to be worth the most. I'd personally prefer to brew with the grandmaster first but I'm really looking forward to playing and brewing with the mentor too.

Thanks

They will both drop but I'm unsure to what amount. The one that maintains the highest price will probably be the one that sees the most modern play which I'm betting will be the Grandmaster. My personal feeling is that I'd pay around $5 for that card comfortably. I know that mentor is currently around $25, and grandmaster at $18 but I see both those prices being completely ridiculous.

By the way, you dont want to put grandmaster in a burn deck.

Summertime will be a good time to pick them up.

I expect Soulfire Grand Master to end up between $5-$10.

Monastery Mentor's floor while in Standard is probably $15.

Is mentor good in standard?

That remains to be seen. The best shell for it hasn't been built yet and it's a card that relies on the cards around it to be good.

Also remember that FRF has only 2 months of standard before Dragons of Tarkir comes out. Things may change once that set is introduced. Could go either way for them though.

I feel safe saying Im certain that Monastery Mentor could end up staying at around 15$ or more as said.. Id love for it to go lower... I made a Dega/Mardu Brew with it and find it to be just insane with Lingering Souls... o.o

A 3 mana creature with 2 toughness that has no immediate board impact has little place in modern.

this is just to troll chief...dont be mad...but in response to your above statement:

Eternal Witness,Etched Champion, Laboratory Maniac, Simian Spirit Guide

all of the above do nothing to the board aside from adding a body, but cause enough sheninigans to warrant inclusion in modern decks

Eternal Witness has immediate impact (ETB effect). She's not used for her body.

Etched Champion has protection so can't be removed.

Laboratory Maniac doesn't see mainstream play.

Simian Spirit Guide is used for mana ramp more so than his body.

ChiefBell, Monastery Mentor is confirmed powerhouse, especially in white when you have Valorous Stance, Feat of Resistance AND Gods Willing. You require this weird voltron prowess response deck where you are negating their removal with cheaper protection spells that also grant you advantage.

I'm trying to find the best colours for it. I'm thinking of either BW or WU, purely because mono white doesn't have enough fliers to combat temur and mardu. I'm thinking WU because then I can run Prognostic Sphinx for better draws and for counterspells sideboard to hate against control.

I don't think turbo pseudo creature fog is the best use...

...m.bison > seeker > mentor. There's our curve. Let's low cmc the gaps!

Monastery Swiftspear is M.Bison.

Why is Monastery Swiftspear M. Bison? That certainly wouldn't have been my first choice...

She should definitely not be M. Bison. Genders don't even match.
