Prerelease vs Regular Foil?

So I'm coming back to magic after a few years and some things have changed, including the way prerelease cards are done. It used to be a different artwork, and was foil of course. Now it's the same artwork and foil but has the date in gold on the card as well. My question is, outside of the golden date added on the card, is there ANY difference between the prerelease version of that card, and the foil version of the card you would get out of a pack? Like is the prerelease version a more shiny or vibrant foil or anything? Or do they look EXACTLY the same, except that there is a date on it? Because if the foil is more shiny, I'd like to get those instead of the regular foil version of the card, but if it is the exact same I'll just get whatever is cheapest. Thanks for any help you can give! :)
Same card, but unlike before there was a vary limited pool of cards that were for the pre release where now it's any rare/mythic.

Last_Laugh Pervavita so there's not really any reason to get the prerelease over the regular? The foiling looks the exact same on both? That's disappointing, I was hoping maybe the prereleases looked a bit more shiny or something. :/ I also wasn't aware that any rare or mythic could be a prerelease foil now!

I personally dont like the gold numbers on the side; though there may be a lower print run than the regular foils so that may be something to consider if you're a collector. Though I'd keep in mind everything non-reseeve list can be reprinted so I don't see them as being anymore collectible as normal foils.

I wouldn't get the prerelease unless you just want it. They'll be more expensive than regular foils a lot of the time, but that's just because of the complications of moving them. Generally, premium versions of anything will move slower, just on the basis of less supply and less demand. For prerelease product in particular, there are rules about shops being able to sell them to avoid inflating prerelease numbers for the promos and other tomfoolery.
