I feel like the EV of Aether Revolt is so low

Maybe it's just me, but all I see right now is that there are ~12 cards worth opening for value, and of those, half of them are mythics. Yes I also understand that Fatal Push is an uncommon, but I just don't think that the $5 dollar pricetag is sustainable. Also, for the cards that are worth over $4, I don't know if a few will even stay at that, like say... Mechanized Production? Herald of Anguish? I guess there's a good chance that several cards spike, but until then... I dunno. Like I want to play at least a few prereleases, but I'm starting to get cold feet about doing all 6 at my LGS for an additional fat pack.

Anyone else feel this way?

isn't it like this everytime before the protour? Like when the new cards are shown they spike and then we have more value?

Yeah, I suppose it could be... Maybe this time around, I should actually try to speculate on something good. Idk... what do you think's good to spec on now?

I dont know the american market, but I put my bet on Lifecrafter's Bestiary. It's currently 1Euro here, but I feel like there is potential with Cryptolith Rite and Paradox Engine. Also: Cryptolite Rite.

Normally, for prerelease I feel the same way I would like at least a SHOT at getting something back and really youre not getting that with this set and you didnt really with the past few sets and I dont think you will with the upcoming sets as wizards is trying to make the sets more balanced and not dominated by one card. That being said I am doing 2 pre releases purely for fun and to hang with friends and I would not spend past that at all on the set but thats just my opinion in my own situation. But theres also the chance of inventions and cool pre release foils so thats another reason I am going because I like to gamble and open packs and stuff.

Every set has at least one card that spikes in price. I was lucky enough to call Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet as a possible card for Modern and got rewarded for picking them up at $6. Kaladesh had the blue gearhulk, although its price rebounded back down somewhat quickly. I didn't have the opportunity to buy cards at release for the last few sets, but I think there are a few good pickups that will see heavy casual play at the very least, which helps drives prices to an extent.

But otherwise, yes. I do feel like the EV of this set isn't that great. I'll buy my few sets of singles and call it a day.

Basically all of the expertise cycle will be seeing testing in eternal formats, but aside from those and the cards already mentioned, the set is only ok in terms of EV. The masterpiece series really puts a damper on the prices of the chase cards, which while it's what they were meant to do is a bit of a bummer for those of us who only wanted to open like 2-3 boxes for value.

Your feelings mean nothing. This is something you could actually math out right now, based on current prices. verages and the masterpiece ratio in previous boxes.
