Foil Spellseeker - what should I do?

I opened a foil Spellseeker at a Battlebond pre-release event. I don't really want it, and I'm hoping to get the most out of it that I can, but I am predicting the price will drop drastically once the set is fully released. Its market value is currently sitting at around $60. I don't think I could sell it for that much online because I'm not a storefront, and because the set isn't officially released yet, I'm pretty sure storefronts are the only ones that can sell battlebond cards for that much right now. The way I see it, I have three options, one, I can try to sell it and make as much from it as I can, two, I can exchange it for in-store credit (I could get around $35 of in-store credit for it), or three, I can hold on to it to see what will happen. My question is twofold, one, do you guys think the price will drop significantly once battlebond is officially released, and two, what option do you think will get me the biggest bang for my buck?

Yes, the set overall is hyped because of a few cards, but it is a summer draft set - it will be less heavily opened, but prices will tank as soon as next week. I say, get your 35 store credit as that is 2 drafts of Battlebond + snacks.

That's what I was planning on doing, and so having you confirm that makes me feel that much more confident with that decision. Because I don't usually pay attention to the economics of the cards, I was just hoping to get some second opinions, so thank you for that.

Well, the easiest indicator to do something like this is to ask yourself a few questions:

  • Is this card expensive because it is heavily played or is it because there is less supply of it? For example:

Example of a low supply card

Nirkhana revenant is a great example of that - in the link you can see its other printing costs 20 bucks, while the Battlebond version is already in the single digits.

Spellseeker has not seen such movements, as it is a new card and there are still hopes for competitive viability, but I do not think it is in the cards for her.

The only cards I foresee bouncing back quickly are Doubling Season and perhaps the new rare land cycle. I think everything else will spiral heavily down.

Hold onto it for sure!! You should look at other highly playable unique card foils from the Conspiracy sets (meaning the card is only currently available in that one set) for examples on likely future prices for it. They are all irrationally high and I expect this trend to continue in Battlebond with Spellseeker, and probably a few others too. Personally I don't get into collecting foil cards, its a volatile market.

It will be played in edh. And possibly legacy/vintage. All three love to foil their decks. So long term it may be worth lots more, short term it might drop some.

I'm interested in buying this from you if you still have it, left a message on your profile.

I ended up trading it in for store credit - I'm hoping to pick up a couple cards I've been wanting with it. Guess we'll have to see if this was wise or not...
