commander 2017 expected value

I just preordered the set of 4 commander decks, but now I'm starting to have buyers remorse. I mean I will probably only ever play 2 of them. Its always good to have cards around for deckbuilding but if the value from a given deck is only about $10-$15 each I'd rather cancel the order before it ships, and just buy the one I actually want. Do the decklists look like a good value?

Each of the decks is currently approximately over $140 in paper value (though largely on hyped prices for new cards and elevated prices for the more valuable reprints). I expect them to be closer to $100-120 each closer to release, and then prices will eventually settle in the $50-100 range per deck, depending on what cards spike/plummet based on power/demand. In my opinion, at MSRP, they'll always be a good value. Getting them below MSRP is fantastic. Above MSRP, it depends how much you want it.

Even if you don't play the decks there are a decent number of commander staples in each. There is a lot of value there when you decide to make another deck in 3 months or a year and already have some of the "must haves" for it.

The commander decks never really go below msrp. They're the one Precon set that is really worth the money. They always stay at least at msrp, and often go stay elevated.

I am curious what deck everyone thinks will be the chase deck like Atraxa was. I was thinking dragons just because everyone likes dragons. The vampires deck looks like it can be strong with the token generation. From what I hear from everyone else the wizards deck has more flexibility when building it. So do I buy the ready to go decks that require minimal adjustments or the one with the most potential/big change needs. I am planning on buying the cars deck for myself since I already had a mono-white deck I am interested in converting.

Where can you preorder it? I want to buy the cat deck

It will be vamps or wizards. Dragons, even with the cost reduction, just won't amount to anything really competitive. Vamps and wizards both have combo potential and some form of political play, which makes them overall more playable, with more competitive cards

you can pre-order on TCGplayer, or probably your LGS too, but tbh they probably will wont significantly more than MSRP there. Yeah I personally want the cats deck too.

Thank you for your help. Are the decks really supposed to be $50, I thought they were $25. I will still preorder it, I was just wondering what determined/changed(?) the value

Msrp is $35, they will actually sell for $40-$55

Last year's decks were better than this year's IMHO. There is no comparison cards with Atraxa this time. Maybe Kess, as I think she's the best legend of the set. The wide ranging appeal of the 4 color legends and partner legends is greater than that of these 4 tribes I think. These are popular tribes but you can build Atraxa or those partners in like a million different ways. Tribal decks tend to be similar in general but especially so within the same tribe. I think they made a bunch of super cool cards though and i would get all 4 decks if I could afford to right now. I also think because of their availability the majority of the singles should drop in value for like a year. I expect to see the decks for sale at MSRP until Christmas. Long term they are great investments, and fantastic for starting up a new collection or deck. All the Commander products have been great in those ways so far.

I preordered all four... The cat one is a present for a friend.

So out of the other three which one or two should I keep sealed for resale after they are out of stock? I am thinking wizards? I have a good mana base for the dragons so I can easily upgrade that one (plus who doesnt like a beefy dragon?). Vamps I was excited for but now unsure. Vamps or Wizards, which should I keep and open/lend to a friend, and which should I aim to sell on? Worse case I sell if for MSRP and still make a tiny profit as preordered a while back.

The hype is on wizards and dragons currently.

Wizards is good to upgrade but the deck as it is looks pretty bad. The individual commanders are good but if you're gunna play one out of the box do vamps or dragons

Yeah value has dropped sharper than last year, and I do agree the decks are from both value and construction a little worse, but tribal is just super fun, so I decided to just go for all four.
