Buy This Deck On Pre-order Now, or Wait?

While my deck page says this deck is worth $300, KTK version of Bloodstained Mire is a lot cheaper than $40. It is about only $260. I can get the entire deck for around $220 on TCG Player. Buy now, or wait? Both of Butcher of the Horde and Bloodsoaked Champion are only $4 each, which are high speculated money cards right now.

ChiefBell says... #2

I wouldn't do it. Honestly wait until the set drops and take your time with it because I don't see a lot of the hyped cards living up to expectations - this is often the case.

The_Raven says... #3

Buy what you think will rise. Then wait to buy until the other cards have dropped :D

September 14, 2014 2:39 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #4

Here are the expensive cards (over $1):

I can get rid of my sideboard cards to save up about ... $15. Hero's Downfall I expect to rise considering the potential relevancy of black AND it being the best removal in standard at the moment. Mana Confluence I only see rising, and Goblin Rabblemaster has also been rising steadily.

September 14, 2014 2:45 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #5

The cards that I don't see rising are already incredibly cheap NorthernRaven. It is hard to say just how much I'm going to be in or out on this.

September 14, 2014 2:47 p.m.

The_Raven says... #6

Ok. Is Bloodsoaked Champion really going to rise?

September 14, 2014 2:57 p.m.

Dalektable says... #7

Eh, I don't know. I don't see the khans cards rising too much, except maybe the fetches. I really don't see Bloodsoaked Champion rising much more.

Femme_Fatale says... #8

People said that about Sphinx's Revelation and it became an auto-include ...

September 14, 2014 3:29 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #9

Sphinxs rev is a modern staple, bloidsoaked is a fringe deck staple. My opinion.is, grab your landbase first then go from there. Bloodsoaked champ will be an aggro staple of standard though so grab him while he's cheap

September 14, 2014 3:45 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #10

Well sometimes people get things wrong. Sometimes theyre right. Speculation is speculation.

September 14, 2014 3:46 p.m.

If you know 100% that this is the deck you want to run for Khans, then go ahead and just buy it. You might lose $20 on the deal, but you get the deck you want now. It will take at least a month for your $4 cards to dip down to their stable prices.

Okay ... I keep on forgetting that most stores do not ship to Canada. Eff.

September 14, 2014 4:03 p.m.

The_Raven says... #13

Femme_Fatale, Uff.... I feel your pain. I live in freaking Denmark. You know how many shops that ships to Denmark? Very few. And when they do, the shipping price is like 10$....

Shops in EU are freaking expensive..... I'm having a hard time over here.....

(Wow, I just needed to write that.... Get rid of some anger! :D)

September 14, 2014 4:39 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #14

Gravecrawler is a 5$ card. Bloodsoaked Champion is worst. Just for comparison sake.

September 14, 2014 5:28 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #15

But the later is standard legal and one of the most powerful 1 drop creatures of the entire standard

September 14, 2014 5:32 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #16

...it's a 1-drop 2/1 in a format that's actively encouraging to play 3-drop 4/4s. I wouldn't consider it THAT impactful.

September 14, 2014 5:36 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #17

Mono black aggro, mardu aggro are things. There aren't many good 1 drops out there is what I'm saying

September 14, 2014 5:38 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #18

Also anyone playing butcher is going to be running 4 of deopending On if that deck is any good, that will tell you

September 14, 2014 5:41 p.m.

GoldGhost012 says... #19

Why wouldn't you just wait until after the prerelease to buy the KoT stuff? The rest of it you can snap up before they (theoretically) rise. They're pretty affordable, and mos of them should see play across the format.

September 14, 2014 5:50 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #20

I have literally, no standard cards beyond 2 Thoughtseize s, and actually going out and trying to find the cards when I'm a student without a vehicle isn't going to be an easy task. I have no standard tradeable material as well.

September 14, 2014 5:52 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #21

mono black is outclassed by green/white though... Bloodsoaked Champion Gnarled Scarhide and Tormented Hero are all worst than Soldier of the Pantheon and Sunblade Elf . Not to mention if u go a step up, Pain Seer Spiteful Returned that new crappy 2/1 Raid card all outclassed by Fleecemane Lion and can't get passed Sylvan Caryatid or Courser of Kruphix ...plus Suspension Field and Devouring Light and Banishing Light not to mention G/W has a better anthem... Spear of Heliod vs Hall of Triumph

September 14, 2014 5:56 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #22

Yet black.has much better removal and you missed the 2 demons that cost 3. Honestly it doesn't matter. The real deck to look at breaking him is the mardu butcher decks like she's running

September 14, 2014 5:59 p.m.

Kravian says... #23

I'm wondering if khans will see lower singles prices after release just because the drafting environment will be a lot more in demand than Theros was . . . meaning larger supplies of singles? Pure speculation, but curious what people think.

September 14, 2014 6:03 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #24

The demons cost 3 but so does Brimaz, King of Oreskos and Boon Satyr . Im a fan of Herald but not so much Master... I think it's personal preference of those in comparison. I like Brimaz & Herald of Torment the best out of both bunches.

White has better board state removal, black has better discard. Banishing Light is on par with Hero's Downfall

September 14, 2014 6:10 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #25

I guess mogis marauder is a thing too.

September 14, 2014 6:24 p.m.

Dalektable says... #26

Mogis's Marauder is certainly a card to take into consideration in the G/W vs Mono Black argument, seeing as white doesn't have Brave the Elements anymore. Both decks are very good, but play very differently.

September 14, 2014 6:28 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #27

Not playing mono black here APPLE01DOJ.

September 14, 2014 6:51 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #28

And didn't see page two. What a newbie mistake.

September 14, 2014 6:52 p.m.

abenz419 says... #29

Sorcery speed exile that returns when removed is not better than instant speed destruction. Especially when 98% if the time they'll be targeting the same things. Therefore Banishing Light is not on par with Hero's Downfall .

September 14, 2014 7:31 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #30

So far, being in Canada adds $100 to shipping. Let's slowly change this and see if I can get something worth while.

September 14, 2014 7:57 p.m.

VampireArmy says... #31

In standard, it's hard to say what's worth while. It comes down to what you enjoy and if it's worth investing in emotionally

September 14, 2014 8:04 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #32

Does anyone know exactly why tcgplayer likes to randomly say that a certain store does not ship to your location? It does this multiple times with a lot of stores, and then it goes away if you refresh.

September 14, 2014 8:35 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #33

Femme_Fatale how has the deck done in play tests?

September 14, 2014 9:35 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #34

True about the speed. ...but Maelstrom Pulse is ran for a reason

Also about the Bloodsoaked Champion argument, did any body else pre-order Pain Seer ?

September 14, 2014 9:38 p.m.

abenz419 says... #35

Maelstrom Pulse also destroys and can possibly be a 2 for 1 or more, Banishing Light isn't even comparable just because they're both sorcery speed.

September 14, 2014 9:51 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #36

I play tested ur deck vs the idea ive been brewing for G/W. I want to first say that I love a lot of the interactions your deck has in it. I love how Goblin Rabblemaster and Launch the Fleet provide enough tokens to make Butcher of the Horde effective immediately. That being said, he was answered with a Suspension Field and Brimaz, King of Oreskos under the aid of a Spear of Heliod effectively answered Rablemaster and his army, while additional fields were drawn and used on Chief of the Edge thanks to Chief of the Scale being on board.

Cool deck, clearly has some threats and u get to run Crackling Doom I think if u buy it u'll have a lot of fun with it.

I was thinking u could bring in some Revoke Existence game 2 and bam it was already on the SB. I think Tormod's Crypt is gonna be another good SB card. As well as Hushwing Gryff

September 14, 2014 10:26 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #37

Playtests have been pretty awesome, but I'm going to change the deck to pure aggro with midrange sideboard considering just how pointless my sideboard is.

Banishing Light is okay, the problem with it is that it isn't a permanent solution, only a temporary one. It is also an inferior Oblivion Ring .

That is a baseless argument there APPLE01DOJ, a 2/1 for 1 with reanimation against a 2/2 for 2 that has a shitty draw function. Well all knew Pain Seer was crap, but this card is the best one drop KTK has to offer. This is shortly followed by Mardu Hateblade and Ruthless Ripper

September 14, 2014 10:30 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #38

I think u'll be fine if u spend 16$ on the play set. I just don't think it'll be as valuable as people think.

September 14, 2014 10:37 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #39

Oh definitely not, it won't go too high because it'll be a heavily opened set. It is however worth the $4 each initial price.

I pretty much came to the conclusion that asking this question was kinda pointless. Every person has their own opinions and when it comes to something so heavily variabled. And there is never an argument that has enough of a backbone to be worth considering, whether it is for or against.

I was also able to get the same price on everything. While I still have to pay the $25 dollar shipping, I'm confidant that I got a really good price for all the cards.

September 15, 2014 12:36 a.m.

The_Raven says... #40

Femme_Fatale: Two things. Don't buy directly from TCG. They always has a higher shipping price.

Second, where are you buying from, since shipping cost 25$?

September 15, 2014 1:17 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #41

Where should I buy them then NorthernRaven? Definitely not starcitygames as I just got the fetches I needed for $6 cheaper, each. That alone is the shipping cost right there. They also don't even have everything. TCG player always has something. And that shipping is because it is from 5 different sellers. However I'm really good at getting the best sale balance between shipping and card price, so I probably saved myself $40 on that regard by spending 4 hours making sure all my purchases were correct.

September 15, 2014 5:04 a.m.

The_Raven says... #42

Femme_Fatale, I usually buy from the seller them self. Like, if your are buying from, lets say AdventuresON.com, the Shipping is cheaper if you buy it from their side, instead of buying it from TCG.

My favorites: Channelfireball.com, AdventuresON.com and TrollAndToad.

But as I said, just go into the shops site. They usually have cheaper shipping :D

Just to throw this out there, face to face games is located in montreal and toronto. Might be a bit expensive. i.e.Bloodsoaked Champion is listed at 6.99 CAD, but might make up for it in the shipping.

September 15, 2014 12:24 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #46

Eh, not worth it gufymike. I got the champions at $4 each. That alone saved me $12. And I looked at Bloodstained Mire , and once again, I saved myself $24 on those. I think the only thing I would have saved money on is Butcher of the Horde , for $1 each at $3. Definitely not worth adding shipping to.
