Yisan: U/G, BUG, or RUG?

Deck Help forum

I'm trying to make a Yisan deck for the upcoming standard and cannot decide between straight U/G, Sultai or Temur. (The reason all of these are U/G based is because Kiora's Follower + Yisan is nuts). Temur has the worst mana-base of the three but also the most spicy stuff such as Savage Knuckleblade and Goblin Rabblemaster . However, black gives me the best removal, and sticking two colors gives me great mana, and I might not even need a third color. Any suggestions?

Temur has the worst mana base? In what regard? It has two sets of pain lands (R/U and U/G) and a set of fetches coming (R/G). All the clans do. They made it that way. If you mean rampers, green and red (with blue in a close third) are the way that order shakes down. Your mana base comment is inaccurate.

i feel like adding another color will only slow the deck down. its already kind of slow to begin with

Yea, I feel like green is kinda known for it's ramp and mana fixing, it's not like Sylvan Caryatid comes in every color...

Remember than yisan can only grab a single 1 drop, 2 drop etc, so I would make sure you load up on the curve for the multiples. A single yisan can't grab Savage Knuckleblade AND a Goblin Rabblemaster

Trust me, splashing for the 3rd color is cool and all, but I can tell you from personal experience that having a Keranos, God of Storms rot in your hand without hitting your red mana source or a Sylvan Caryatid makes you feel pretty darn silly :/

I've tried running a Temur build, but I switched to G/U. I tried doing to much with an extra color being thrown in. instead of making the deck stronger, it made it clunkier. my advice, find what works for the two-color build, and stick with it.

Cool that others are looking into this build. I know Reid Duke experimented with bant, but chose to play U/G later on. Rattleclaw Mystic might help with fixing for red, but running both Follower, Caryatid and Rattleclaw might get in the way for good tutor targets. I tried building an experimental build yesterday, The Bard and the Prophet. G/U Devotion, and would really like to see what you've come up with so far. GPaps22, would you mind posting your list too?

Sorry I was gone for so long. On the BUG has better mana than RUG. The difference is very subtle and now I agree with y'all. (My reasoning was pain lands > fetches, without shock lands, and I'm base G so Llanowar Wastes >Shivan Reef and Wooded Foothills ) Thanks for letting me see straight on that. Sooo, RUG is probably better to do if I'm three color. However, everyone brought up useful points, and I'll probably go U/G. Thanks!
