Here is an Abzan deck I just put together for Friday Night Magic. I have been out of magic for about 8 years but now that I'm getting back in and I would like to have a deck that can hold its own in tournaments. Any suggestions or feedback would be great. Also, I know there are better cards I could be using but I am trying to work with a budget until I get a few wins under my belt.
My deck:
FNM Bootleg Abzan Playtest
Standard
SCORE: 0 | 0 COMMENTS | 11 VIEWS4x Abzan Charm 1x Anafenza, the Foremost 1x Ancient Silverback 1x Armament Corps 1x Armory of Iroas 1x Banishing Light 2x Bloodsoaked Champion 1x Crowned Ceratok 1x Despise 1x Dictate of Heliod 2x Eternal Thirst 4x Fleecemane Lion 8x Forest 1x Garruk, Apex Predator 2x Golden Hind 1x Gyre Sage 1x Jungle Hollow 1x Mana Confluence 2x Pheres-Band Tromper 3x Plains 3x Rakshasa Deathdealer 2x Rotfeaster Maggot 1x Rust Scarab 1x Sandsteppe Citadel 2x Scoured Barrens 1x Siege Rhino 6x Swamp 2x Viper's Kiss 1x Whip of Erebos 2x Windswept Heath
Oh, I actually forgot the third and most important thing - make a 15 card sideboard.

Just so you know, all of your Return to Ravnica cards have rotated out and cannot be used in Standard anymore. So Gyre Sage , Crowned Ceratok , and Rust Scarab can't be used.
Also I would recommend adding in another Anafenza, the Foremost and some Siege Rhino . Both are wonderful cards. Also you could swap out your Golden Hind 's for some Elvish Mystic s or Rattleclaw Mystic s. Both are stronger. Finally, maybe add another Banishing Light just to help with those tough matchups.

Awesome, thank you for the feedback. When I went to the wizards website I thought it said Ravnica was still okay to use? check it out: http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=judge/resources/sfrstandard
I will definitely try your suggestions, thanks so much!

Updated April 28, 2014 should be your first clue. The second clue is that you have included KTK cards in your deck, which according to that link, is not a legal set.
Trust us, remove the Ravnica stuff, it is illegal for sure.

Return to Ravnica rotated as soon as Khans of Tarkir became legal, same with M14. If you bring those cards in your deck to a FNM, you will get a match loss for your deck since it contains illegal cards.

Roger that, like I said though, I have been out the game for quite some time now. I'll have to hit the card shop tonight and get some replacements.

Now all that's left is to replace the Pheres-Band Tromper , Viper's Kiss and Armory of Iroas with any other cards you don't have as a 4-of already. Then it's pretty competitive for FNM.
After that you can start finetuning towards a certain strategy; aggro(ish), midrange or lategame. Having Soldier of the Pantheon and Garruk, Apex Predator in the same deck doesn't mesh very well. If you want to play cards like Garruk, you need your deck to carry you to the lategame and thus will need things like Sylvan Caryatid , Courser of Kruphix and more removal/card draw.
If you're focussing on winning fast, move out the Garruk, the Dictate of Heliod since that's more for a token/swarm deck, the Elvish Mystic and then the Whip of Erebos to the sideboard for aggro/burn matchups. Replace with more Bloodsoaked Champion , Soldier of the Pantheon , Anafenza, the Foremost , Siege Rhino .

If you have more Siege Rhino s, you definitely wanna add them.

I would suggest more Despise . deals with pesky planeswalkers.

Short answer, yes. Long answer, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.
But seriously, start by removing the illegal cards from the deck: 1x Crowned Ceratok, 1x Gyre Sage, 1x Rust Scarab. Add literally anything that is legal in their place.
2nd, trim the fat and interact. You have 0 ways to interact with the opponent and that is terrible. Remove the 1 ancient silverback, 2 eternal thirst, 2 rotfeaster maggot, 2 viper's kiss and add 7 of any removal you can think of - Banishing Light , Suspension Field , Murderous Cut , Hero's Downfall , Bile Blight are the first few that come to mind.
That is all for now.
