The return of the Obliterator..

Deck Help forum

In light of the reprint of affordable fetch-lands, I've decided to revisit my most popular deck on TO in order to make it more competitive overall.. (Devoted to Obliteration..) And due to what I actually own, my tri-colored options include: Mardu, Esper, or Grixis(Note: I've omitted because I don't own a single land or any other important staple for that matter. Therefore Jund & Abzan are out of the question)

Currently I've decided to brew in the direction of Dega/Mardu.. The Red to mainboard Terminate, Lightning Bolt, Pit Fight, and Bump in the Night; and to sideboard Slaughter Games. The splash of White to sideboard Disenchant, Stony Silence, & Rest in Peace..

So my question(s) to you guys is 'what do you think'? I was also thinking of working a pair of Rakdos Charms into the sideboard, would this be a good idea? Or would something else work better? Or should I just scrap the Dega angle altogether in favor of Esper or Grixis? (I know they have better man-lands..)

Obliterator is far more suited for 2 colors. Try wb midrange. It's called dead guy ale modern

@VampireArmy I've been considering that particular direction as well; to drop my pair of Gray Merchants and opt for a build using Path to Exile & Tidehollow Sculler, but I would have a hard time losing the burn that I feel as though translates into maximum value when when it comes down to cards that can actually close a game out..

I dunno about that. If you have access to thoughtseize and inquisition of kozilek and tidehollow sculler you can rip right through their hand. After that it's almost impossible to lose

I'm talking about late-game top decking, because some of my worst match-ups in the past were against dedicated Control decks (U/W Elspeth Control, American Control, & Grixis Cruel Control), and in those situations top decking a Lightning Bolt or Bump in the Night would be far more useful than say a Path to Exile (which doesn't touch players or Planeswalkers).. Also I currently own ZERO Dark Confidants or Pack Rats, which seem to be a must for the original decklist(s) which sport CMC's that top out at three. And finally, what kind of man-land would I have access to aside from Spawning Pool, Forbidding Watchtower, or Mutavault? (The first one is crap, and the other two can't cast my Obliterators)

Gonna Level with you. The only deck guaranteed to win that includes obliterator is the gb rock style deck. Obviously that isn't west you're going for but my point being is shoving a 4 black creature into a 3 color build is going to be hell on your manabase. It's suicide especially with ru twin becoming more popular again. They sideboard bloodmoons and with the manabase you're going to have to run it'll cost you game after game. I'm just saying as far as midrange non green goes orzhov is your best competitive option though if you want to brew something spicy i encourage you. Sidenote : some people use phyrexian arena in place of dark confidant as a budget option. Lately I've been wondering if it's just a better option in this meta

GlistenerAgent will agree I'm sure about everything except the arena thing. That part I'm sure he 'll disagree with

Oh man, do you remember that one thread over the summer about five color bad stuff? Phyrexian Obliterator and Knight of the Reliquary and Mul Daya Channelers... Jeez, that was stressful.

Don't play three color Obliterator, unless you're cool and want to play Domri Rade Obliterator Jund. I'd highly suggest Rock, but if you don't want to play that Dead Guy is a reasonable alternative. With Dead Guy, make sure you have a healthy supply of Fetid Heaths. :)

Phyrexian Arena probably will never be better than Bob, because even in the Burn matchup (really the only place where it's better) it's way too slow to make an impact. They do work fine on a budget.
