Superfriends win Condition

Deck Help forum

Hi All

I am thinking of building an Atraxa, Praetors' Voice EDH Superfriends deck.

But one thing that bothers me, what are some win conditions for Superfriends?

One strategy is to make a pillowfort and wait it out, but which combos can actually win the game for you?

Looking forward to reading your feedback :)

Best Regards

Spawning tokens could be one strategy due to several planeswalkers creating them with their (+) ability. Doubling Season is an expensive but VERY effective way to take over a game through the ultimates of your planeswalkers. I have a 5-color superfriends deck, and one game the season put me over the top for the win. I was able to play both Vraska the Unseen and Ral Zarek on the same turn and utilamte them. I was able to get a few extra turns to swing with the assasin tokens.

It does depend on how you want to build your deck. I went true superfriends and have no creatures in my deck other than the tokens I can create. So I play a few board wipe spells to remove my opponents' creatures due to mine coming back through my planeswalkers. One big word of advice is to be prepared to be hated on. If you are in a large group people will target your planeswalkers right away so make sure to play ones that protect themselves a bit. One vs one is not too bad, but a superfriends deck one vs one will be very onesided when built right.

I do realize now that Ral Zarek would not be an option for you if you play Atraxa. Sorin Markov is a great option if Doubling Season is out.

Another thing to look into doing is playing cards that have Proliferate. Inexorable Tide and Contagion Engine are two very propular cards for this type of deck.

Thank you very much

Yeah, tokens seems to be the most common wincondition with superfriends, might have to make my deck go with that, but then i could add a Intangible Virtue. Just think tokens might get a bit boring after a while, but I will have to see, 30 planeswalkers in a deck might make up for that :)

I am playing in groups where we love the deckbuilding, so we just proxy some of the most expensive cards, that are almost a must for a deck, like Doubling Season in a Superfriends deck. But limit ourselves to must include cards, so we wont proxy original dual lands and such :)

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar would be a good option for the tokens theme. I would wait until it rotates from standard to drop in price a little bit. How big is your play group? If you have a lot of people to worry about Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, and Sphere of Safety would be helpful to include. They last option is one of the best because it is the only one that protects your planeswalkers. With the other two people can still attack your PW.

If you have not done so already, I would deck search commander decks that have Atraxa at the helm. Each deck will be different, but you will start to see reoccurring cards each deck includes that are "must haves."

Did you buy Atraxa's starter deck already, or are you just going to buy the cards you need? If you are going to play some creatures in the deck then Deepglow Skate is a powerful card for the deck.

I'm fairly new to Magic so my knowledge is a bit limited.

Are there any Planeswalkers besides Sorin, Grim Nemesis who can deal direct damage?

I know that Chandra, Torch of Defiance can, for example.

Its mostly the planeswalkers who are red or part red that deal direct damage.

It depends on how many show up the given day we play, but it mostly varies with 4-6 players :)

I have not bought the Atraxa starter deck, but i might do that :) But i prefer the deck building like the other ones in my playgroup, so we will just proxy a lot of cards :) And yeah i already added Deepglow Skate in my prototype build :)

And Gideon is a very good option, will most likely include him :)
