Pioneer Approach

Deck Help forum

I love Approach of the Second Sun , it's one of my favourite cards ever printed and I see Pioneer as a good way to start using it again, the question is which shell to put it in. I played a Jeskai build back in Standard and could see that working well with Fires of Invention , Fae of Wishes , Drawn from Dreams and a lot of wrath effects, but I've also played a budget Azorius build based around permission spells, particular ones that offer incidental lifegain or can be used flexibly for advantage like Supreme Will . Lastly I can see potential for an Esper build with hand disruption such as Thoughtseize .
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the most effective/most fun take, plus any suggestions for cards or combos that could make this deck work. I'd like it to be reasonably competitive as if it tests well would be looking to take it to PTQs. Thanks in advance!

It may not be your taste or playstyle but I think Bant Turbofog would be very effective.... you could even entertain the idea of Maze's End / Kiora, the Crashing Wave as backup plans.

I would play this deck as a U/W control build. Dig Through Time , Sphinx's Revelation , and Treasure Cruise (I actually prefer Dragonlord's Prerogative ) will dig more than enough to find your Approach of the Second Sun to get going.

You have more than an adequate pool of counters to choose from, and I would say a chuck of about 10 cards can be devoted to this slot (base the choices on your local meta). Throw in some Supreme Verdict for good measure, in case anything actually sticks.

Finally, I would round the deck out with a few alternate win-cons. My choices here would be Dragonlord Ojutai , AEtherling , and Elspeth, Sun's Champion . I have also had some pretty great luck using Pearl Lake Ancient in the past.
