Phalanx Leader is bad!

Deck Help forum

So... i have my deck Got some Auras on my Gnarlid and i desperately need to replace Phalanx Leader because while he is good in many other decks he just does NOT fit in this deck and I don't know what else to put in this deck instead of him!

I'm looking for a 2 cmc green, white or both card. I'd prefer creature but another aura or aura-synergistic card would work! Please help!!!!

Hero of Iroas makes your auras cheaper, gets bigger and is easier to cast

When KTK was released, a number of Pro's looked at Jeskai and Heroic... they determined that a few Heroic creatures in a deck worked well, but too many ended up being bad. I believe you have come to the same conclusion they did in regards to Phalanx Leader.

...and as I'm typing this, I flipped to your deck and realized that you are designing for Modern, and I was discussing Standard...

...but anyway! If it were Standard, I would have suggested Prowess creature(s) as a replacement. - Seeker of the Way would have been the suggestion. - As I don't know the creature base for Modern as well, I will stick with saying you should find creatures which do not require Enchantments to be good, but will benefit from them.

Aside from that, card draw is good...

Eidolon of Blossoms
Mesa Enchantress
Verduran Enchantress.

...I'm just not sure if they're all that great on their own.

The obvious answer is Gladecover Scout and Slippery Bogle, of course then the question becomes why are you not already playing them? Both of these are way better than Aura Gnarlid. You're guys are going to get way bigger than any other creature deck already, protecting them is way more important than making them unnecessary large and opening yourself up for blow outs.

Yeah. Make it a bogles deck. You can keep Gnarlid, but take out high cmc cards. Also, take out Phalanx Leader. And only have only 1 of Aura Gnarlid or Kor Spiritdancer. (Don't have a total of 8). Only run 1 playset. Also, take out the Angelic Destiny. 4 CMC = Bad

I personally would only run one hero of iroas, maybe 2. Since they do not 'stack' in your deck really. Almost all of your enchantments can take advantage of no more than one Hero in play.

Slippery Boggle and Gladecover Scout are huge for the protection they give your auras. Totem Armor is fine, but it does not stop your opponent Path to Exileing your dudes. Might as well be Auras.dec if you go that way though.

I also like Gatherer of Graces over Aura Gnarlid. The evasion that Gnarlid gives is often a moot point due to the number of cards that you have that already give trample, protection from creatures, ect ect. His sac ability is kind of a shitty form of Totem Armor, but the more protection on your creatures the better for an aura deck. Finally, if you have Gatherer of Graces, Kor Spirit Dancer, and Rancor, you have a sweet card drawing engine that get you a card for (G) repeatedly :D
