Deck Help forum

Hi! I just began playing Magic just a few days ago. I was thinking of building around a blue and white deck. Do those colors correspond well? Any suggestions as for a deck I should build?

All colours can go well with each other to some extent. I mean the first and most obvious question is what style of deck do you want to play?

blue/white fliers or blue/white control are recurring themes. And blue/white/x decks are usually present in standard tournaments that I have seen.

Depends on your format if it is going to get competitive (as in good in bigger tournaments), and will depend on your local meta (what you will likely see at your local store).

Need more details on what your going to playing against mainly. If its just a bunch or friends, your deck may be competitive, but at FNM it may or may not be depending on how competitive the FNM players are.

One of my local shops is more to brew up their own decks (home brew), and the other just copy a deck from the top 8 of a recent tournament (net decking).

I was just going to play against friends. We have some local competition but I am not going to go pro with this. I just want a deck that is good at offense and can give me health.

Blue/white is more of a controlling combination. If you wanted to be an attacker and gain health, I would suggest white/black, but that is only my opinion.

I would use a black and white deck but since I am only a beginner I might destroy myself using black. I really just want colors that give me a good offense but also some health. Any 2 color decks that can do that?

white/green or white/black are good, or white/black/green combined. Black had good removal, and nice cards that net life gain. Black spells don't always cause you to lose life. But having white's life gain will negate the life loss of black. Which is why some white black token decks uses Bitterblossom and Soul's Attendant.

if you are only playing against friends, white black can be really good, as Blood Artist and similar cards will net you life gain also. But as you get better at magic you will learn that gaining life is not going to win the game. Life should be viewed as a resource that can be manipulated. You only need 1 life to win the game...unless you are using Platinum Angel or other effects, cause then you don't even need a positive life total to win.

I might go with the green/white deck but wouldn't the mana cost be too great? I've done research on both and both their weaknesses show that mana cost is high.

generally speaking green usually has big things for big costs, but that doesn't mean it only has those things. there are plenty of cards in both those colors that you can play earlier in the game until you get enough mana to play some bigger spells.

What is your budget? That is very important.

You might want to try Green/White tokens. It's the kind of deck you described. There are plenty of cheap white and green token producing cards, and cards like Intangible Virtue to make them bigger. If you want life gain, you could go for a few Soul's Attendant or something.

The price range is between $30-$40. And thank you guys so much for this information!

Okay, so from what you said, you want :

White and another color

Some kind of "offensive" deck

Life gain

And 30-40$

Now, from this, I would suggest either running mono white tokens or b/w tokens.

As a core, you probably want:

Soul's Attendant (and the other one), Raise the Alarm, Lingering Souls, Spectral Procession, Intangible Virtue.

If you want to also play black (then you need some dual lands), you can get cards like Duress and other discard cards.

The feck can be made for really cheap, and it can later be upgraded to a much better deck for a lot more money :)

Stupid question but what does it mean when the card says creature tokens?

June 12, 2016 7:38 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #16

Creature tokens are a Permanent of the super-type "Creature." They are created by a spell or ability and can be represented by any object the player wants to use. They follow the same rules as creature cards when on the battlefield, but when they leave the battlefield they seize to exist after hitting the relevant zone. (Ie.graveyard)

aholder7 says... #17

basically for all intensive puproses creature tokens are regular creatures. but after they stop existing once they go somewhere not the battlefield.

examples: a token dies and goes to the grave. it stops existing after it goes into the graveyard. or if they return it with something like Vapor Snag, it will go to your hand then stop existing.

Ideally, token decks should be White/Black.

Bear in mind that this may not be the deck/archetype you enjoy the most. Really, the only way to tell is to play them all.
