Need a second set of eyes on my Golgari dredge deck

Deck Help forum

Hey guys, I've been staring at this for days now. I need some outside eyes to take a look for me.

Look over my Golgari deck and tell me if you think Boneyard Wurm or Nighthowler is better for the slot the Wurm currently holds. I know the howler is easily the better creature and it'll make my Jarad combo more consistent, but is it worth the extra stress on the Mana base?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Hey man, possibly you could replace Boneyard Wurm with Wreath of Geists and play Nighthowler. I think it is worth the extra mana because it is easily the better creature. Wreath of Geists is a playable card at 1 mana and is like a Boneyard Wurm.

But if wreath gets milled it does nothing for me. So it's between the two creatures. I just can't decide if the extra mana, and also the double black symbols is worth it.

I mean, truthfully, I'm not usually casting the Wurm on turn 2 anyway, so it might not matter that the howler is a little harder to cast. This isn't a fast deck and the Lotleth Troll can hold down the fort early game. So maybe it's worth it.

You know your deck a whole lot better than I do, but here's how I'd go about doing things:

Drop the Boneyard Wurms for Nighthowlers. Drop a single Nightmare Void OR a Life from the Loam, and a single Bonehoard for two extra Swamps to boost the mana (both in total count and in black mana sources).

Don't know if that would screw up other mechanics you have set up, but there's my two cents.

Loam is quite a bit more important than void. I could probably spare a void. And if I add the howler, cutting a bonehoard is perfectly fine. I think that's a pretty solid suggestion. I'll run some playtests with those changes.

Cool, let me know how it goes. I may end up working on my own build based on this deck. :)

Also, could it be worth cutting all the voids for extra land cards? The more land cards in the deck you don't need, the more you can cast Raven's Crime over and over again.

With Loam, I think 22 is more than enough land. And if you can get Dakmor Salvage in the yard, you can cast Raven's Crime every turn. The reason to keep void though is that it can be used as a mill engine while simultaneously picking apart your opponent's hand. It's pretty great.

I reckon you should splash white for Unburial Rites.

If you have a look at my deck it's also dredge, albeit a different take. However, the reason it is relevant is because they're both BG, however I splash white for flashback of unburial rites. It is definitely worth it.
