Need a Recommendation for a Good Cruel Control Deck EDH

Deck Help forum

I'm so tired of playing against my friend's land destruction deck, and I want to retaliate with my own brand of slow and painful vengeance.

I've been trying to find a functional, mono-colored, cruel control deck with an overall low cmc cost that could perform well in 1v1 and group settings, and in order of interest, I've considered prison decks, steal decks and discard decks, not to mention your own personal suggestions, but I need a good recommendation from you guys before I sink a large chunk of change into something that isn't balanced or just isn't fast enough: I rarely get more than three lands out in 1v1, even with a mono-colored deck.

I know there are some great decks on this site, and I'm really hoping that one of you seasoned Magic vets could point out some really competitive cruel control decks that could perform well against a variety of decks, not just land destruction.

Also, I know some of you would probably recommend Titania, Protector of Argoth for an anti-land destruction deck, but again, I'm really looking for a deck that's balanced enough to perform against a variety of deck types.

Your wisdom is appreciated!

Cruel Control is so named because of the card Cruel Ultimatum. I'm going to assume the format you're playing is EDH since you mentioned Titania, so I'll recommend mono blue if you're dead set on monocolored. There are a number of powerful combo/control commanders available in mono blue, including Arcum Dagsson and Azami, Lady of Scrolls. If you want a lock out deck and aren't afraid of spending some money, Patron of the Moon is basically the blue version of land destruction. If you're okay with two colors, Grand Arbiter Augustin IV is one of the most brutal lockout control commanders ever printed.

I suggest you beat him to hes own game with a Hokori, Dust Drinker + either small aggro or stax deck.

Not mini colored but I'd go with tasigur. Lots of control and tho graveyard is reusable. And you can force your opponents to give you back your good cards via his ability.

Maybe you could run an artifact deck? that would definitely get around land destruction because of all of the mana rocks

If you want to delve into multicolored, Thraximundar is a fantastic commander for the style you want
