Mono White EDH Deck Needs Work -- Michiko

I'm currently working on a Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker EDH deck, and basically, I don't think I'm doing it right. Michiko is not a very common commander, but I think she has some potential. Her lack of use (at least among decks on this site) leaves me with little precedence on how a build with her works. Her ability also isn't one that you would normally attribute to a mono-white creature, so I'm having a tough time find an appropriate direction. I want to focus on Michiko's ability as much as possible without going Voltron.
Currently, I'm going with a "prevent all the damages" approach, but it hasn't been working out. I'm outpaced by any aggro/Voltron style deck, and decks that rely on their late game hit harder than I do.
I tried to avoid a lifegain approach, but I'm leaning more and more towards using this. I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions, especially helping me establish a board position before I'm run over.
