Modern Deck That Uses Standard Cards

Deck Help forum

So I sort of wanted to play standard but it costs too much money. So I want to play modern but with standard cards if that makes sense so that I don't have to constantly spend money on new decks. So what deck should I play? Feel free to link your own decks.

If you don't want to constantly spend money on new decks just build a modern deck. You'll be forced to build new decks fairly frequently in standard

There are no modern decks that rely on cards from this standard. However if you go back to innistrad block and return to ravnica block you can build good modern decks from that card pool.

If you want a cheap modern deck to build then I can help you. What do you like to play? Aggro, control, or midrange?

Siege Rhino sees play in Modern Abzan, but I'd guess you're not interested in all the money associated with that deck.

Atarka's Command is very, very good in Burn. While many don't play it, a friend of mine who I believe to be a very strong pilot (take that as you will) started at two copies and quickly went to four. Really, really good.

Anticipate will grow in popularity in Twin and Scapeshift decks. Again, just a strict upgrade over other cards you could be playing.

That's what I can think of at the moment. Maybe I'm forgetting stuff.

There's some argument that Blue/White Heroic could be borderline Modern viable, so that may be worth a look. It's not really competitive, though.

You could build a "bad X" deck using mostly cards from this Standard and gradually upgrade it to actually Modern viable as new cards are released. This'll take a while, though. You could wait for Goblin Rabblemaster to rotate out of Standard and hope the price plummets, pick that up, and build some sort of slow Burn deck around it.

I think you'd be better off just building a cheap modern deck from scratch.

There's definitely no valid argument for heroic in modern. Why would you not just play infect?

As usual, ChiefBell is right. INN-RTR has a really strong card pool with which to build fairly cheap modern decks. You also get the Check lands and Shocks, which makes the mana fixing decent without using fetches.

I have a modern deck that uses quite a few more recent cards. If you can handle acquiring the mana base and learning a skill based deck give it a shot.

Of course I'm just plugging the archetype everywhere i can until i see it at a protour

@xlaleclx: Probably not, no. It's the one that's closest to valid, I feel, but it's not really competitive enough.

ChiefBell I like playing unique decks but can still win but on a budget around tier 1-1.5. I already have a burn and 8-Rack deck. I don't want a mill or land destruction deck though. Any other good ideas and if possible make the deck on your profile because I am not very good at starting a deck with 2 or 3 suggestions but if you don't have much time its okay. Also a budget as in $50-$80

So you won't get above tier 2 for $50 - $80.

Do you have any shocklands or fetchlands?

April 18, 2015 4:14 p.m.

ChiefBell No, but I can start a deck and then slowly upgrade the deck.

Hmm. Don't play 8rack - it's just bad.

You already have a modern burn deck you said? Is it on the site?

ChiefBell Its outdated but its called may or may not be good and its mono red. I will update it right now.

I'll check in 2 mins.

ChiefBell Also if you upgrade that deck you have $50-$60 for improvements.
