Keranos in Delver?

Deck Help forum

Hi Everybody! (Hi Dr. Nick!)

So I've got this deck. It's essentially a Grixis Delver deck. The thing is, I want it to more effectively lock down my opponent with removal and discard while I develop a board presence. The downside of this strategy is I've found it to be a little slower, and can often run out of steam. As a result I experimented with Falkenrath Aristocrat and a human subtheme, since I like Xathrid Necromancer and Young Pyromancer is a delver staple. I even tested Civilized Scholar  Flip for some looting and a 5/1 beater when it's relevant.

My question...would Keranos, God of Storms be a decent addition? I know it sees some Modern play, but I'm wondering if it makes sense or am I just crazy. I don't like running out of steam, and him throwing Lightning Bolt s and drawing me cards is awesome.

Anyway, the deck is

I see it as competing for space with the Aristocrat currently. Maybe with the Civilized Scholar  Flip too.

Yes. Hell yes. Incredible amounts of yes.

The creature set for Grixis Delver should probably consist of just 4 Delver of Secrets  Flip , 4 Young Pyromancer or Dark Confidant , 4 Snapcaster Mage and 1-2 of what I call "flood finishers". They're topdecks, and if they resolve gain you a lot of advantage. The two most common examples of these are Batterskull and Keranos, God of Storms , and I highly advise playing Keranos instead of the really bad creatures that are currently in your deck. Civilized Scholar  Flip is quite poor, Xathrid Necromancer is pretty poor, and you can do better than the Aristocrat.

Xathrid Necromancer doesn't seem to fit here the way I wanted it to. The problem I see with Delver is it gets wiped out by stuff like Anger of the Gods (not Anger specifically, but sweepers in general.) The Necromancer was supposed to provide some resilience by turning my delvers and pyromancers into zombies...never happened though.

I quite like Civilized Scholar  Flip . Its too bad it dies to a swift breeze, but the card filtering and potential to swing as a 5 power creature is earning it some playing time. For now. I'll cut the Necromancer and an Aristocrat for two Keranos. Fair?

I would probably split Keranos and Batterskull . Two of the God feels like a lot. I also advise cutting your curve down in the instants, playing Dismember and Slaughter Pact over some of the less powerful cards. Cryptic Command isn't actually that good in Delver, but the full set of Remand is.

What do you think about Treasure Cruise ?

Broken as all hell. Play seven if you can. Almost certainly don't play Bob in that case, and it's fine to run lower on Snapcasters.

I'm thinking 2 Snapcasters are more than enough, and I'm looking at 3 Treasure Cruise . I'm tempted to run Faithless Looting to feed the card, but I don't think it's the right fit for this build.

Playing your deck feeds the card. You don't need much else.
