I'm probably going to by an intro pack soon, just for fun...

Has anyone tried them and can recommend one?

Don't buy them

I don't recommend them for playing in a Standard tournament.

You're better of tweaking an Event deck or a Clash Pack.

However what I DO recommend is buying two Intro decks that sound interesting to you and playing them against each other.

I do that with just about every set.

The decks are usually very balanced against each other and have a tonne of cool little interactions that you may have wanted to try, but couldn't quite work into a deck.

The games are usually quite long and interesting.

At the moment my partner and I are playing the UC Eldrazi deck against the BW Allies.

If you have more than two people who want to try this have everyone buy a different deck each and play a free for all.

You get two booster packs with each deck, so extra chances to crack a good card.

I'd recommend the UC Eldrazi just because it's fun to play around with the Colourless mana.

Argeaux if you're buying them just for fun, the lists are available online, and you can probably build the same thing for $5... Of course, unless you don't mind spending much more for a slight convenience, but generally, there really isn't a good reason to buy intro packs.

I tried playing an intro deck online. It was quite painful to do so. I used "Swarming Instinct" the UG Eldrazi deck. I didn't expect much but all really wanted was a jumping off point. Eventually it turned into this Return to Ashes!. Intro decks provide a fun challenge for deck building and makes getting started much easier. That said, the decks are pretty bad. Great for teaching beginners bad for fnm.

elementalheroflamewingman some of us like the real world interaction at the kitchen table.

We also recently took two intro packs with us to play on holiday, where there was no 'net access.

I bought two of the intro decks during origins. The green one specifically and was able to make a decent tribal elves deck from it.

Argeaux I don't mean using any programs to play magic. You can literally build the same deck by looking through the trash pile/ buying singles from your LGS. I do hunt down cards to build intro packs because they are useful to introduce players to the game. I just don't see the point of buying it as a sealed product when the cards cost a fraction of the price on the secondary market.

Your LGS might be better than mine. I usually can't find everything I want.

I also like my cards M/NM and love the two extra boosters to crack.

Each to their own.
