How to improve Blessed vs Cursed duel deck?

Deck Help forum

I bought as my first contact with magic. I've played with friends to the point I regret not buying card sleeves (I played ~40 games of ~60 games played in total). I also went to my local store and they let me play with other decks.

I'm going to the prerelease of karesh so I'm starting there building a deck and playing with the locals. But there are lots of fiends I love to play with, they already love the game (after playing with Blessed vs Cursed) but have no money to spend.

I want to still play with the Blessed vs Cursed decks with friends, but having 'more fun cards'. What I mean is a more complex set of cards. Playing with decks in the shop, all have a strategy in mind and it was a bit more complex and interesting.

My experience with the duel deck, usually when one of the two is winning there is little the other can do. The matches usually are a bit short. I got the feeling they are balanced because I won with either one with no problem.

I think some problems could be consistency in the hands, yesterday playing with a friend I won 3 out of 4. Because he was really unlucky and there was little he can do.

My plan for both decks:

Blessed:

I want to take advantage of this combination:

Champion of the Parish with blinking.

Something in this line when blessed improves on some warriors and creates some extra weak forces but great in number. I don't know if increasing the number of copies will create this effect. I really like Gather the Townsfolk.

Cursed:

We don't seem to find any place for Cobbled Wings or Driver of the Dead, and we like the horde of zombies cursed could bring to the table, but we like more zombies.

Adding more Gravecrawler and Moan of the Unhallowed.

I want to go to the shop with an idea this week and expand this month card budget in this idea. But I don't know if it's any good or it's just plain stupid. Also having so many cards available to buy, I just want some guidance and advice. Is my idea any good or reasonable?

To clarify my question. Based on my idea to improve is there any there is any card (or list of cards) I should take into account? I'm looking to show more of what magic has to offer just with this two decks.

Other things I'll experience are Planeswalkers, there is fun to play with. But the decks have none.

Some cards I've seen:

  1. Blessed:

    Blessed vs Cursed, Blessed

    Casual DeadlyGamer

    SCORE: 1 | 79 VIEWS | IN 2 FOLDERS

  2. Cursed:

just in case you don't know this you can't blink a token. also in the blessed if your running Champion of the Parish run Thalia's Lieutenant as well it helps out a lot. I'm not sure what the entire deck list is for bl3ssed vs cursed so I can't say to much

Fuck, I didn't know you can't blink a token. Thank god it wasn't common when we play doing that.

yeah when a token leaves the battlefield it just dissapears. because it doesn't have a "corporeal" body it can't come back

I really miss this time. When you just started playing. Improving on intro decks. Don't go too fast with improving your decks, this time is the most fun :). Buy boosters and play stuff you think is fun. I would wait a couple of months with competitive FNM, enjoy the game while its new and exciting.

smackjack Thanks, I'm enjoying the game a lot. I'm just looking to discover some new cards and trying to see how they could be added to this two decks when playing with some friends.

I know what you mean, i really want to go slow and discover things. I want to dive in this Saturday with Kaladesh.

From some of what you said it might not be a bad move for you just to buy another set of the duel decks

eu271 yeah, when me and my friend started playing we didnt know what cards were in what set. We bought boosters based on what boosters we thought looked coolest :). Now when im all into the game i know all the cards before release, and after getting into modern and legacy there are few cards that excites me. Maybe 1-2 cards per set, if any at all. When i started i went bananas with Corpsejack Menace and Deadbridge Goliath. There came many cards supporting those shenanigans. That was sooo fun, but i cant do that stuff anymore because its not really competitive and my friends decks would crush me. Enjoy your time as a beginner :D

disclaimer: Competitive magic is fun as holy hell. Maybe even more fun than casual, but less exciting. Im not trying to keep you from becoming competitive, but you should enjoy the romance of being new for as long as you can ;)

110% agree with smackjack. The "magic" of magic is at the beginning, as you organically find combinations and synergies on your own and play with friends in the same boat. Try to avoid netdecking (i.e. Looking up other people's lists then copying them) for as long as you can. Competitive magic is really fun for sure but you cannot unsee what you have seen lol
