How do I run Tibalt?

Deck Help forum

So my friend said that there was no way to run Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded in a good deck. So I said that I would find a way! Anyway I need some suggestions on how and what I should run in this deck.

You could run him in a proliferate deck...then you never need to +1 him...

There is certainly a way to run Tibalt in a good deck, however a deck relying on him is probably going to drag along a bit. If you want to discard stuff (for Madness or to fuel delve or whatever whacky idea you come up with) his +1 is perfectly serviceable. Hit that four times and you get an Insurrection? That isn't terrible. Tibalt is not a great planeswalker but you can still use him easy enough.

The best way to play Tibalt is to play him in a format where he doesn't suck. Unfortunately, no such format exists.

Seriously though, your best bet is to cram a bunch of madness, unearth and flashback spells in a deck and go from there. Not having control of what gets thrown in the graveyard is the reason he sucks, so if you can find a way to make use of that stuff then great.

His third power is great with a Ashnod's Altar, Altar of Dementia, Phyrexian Altar or Spawning Pit. Main problem is protecting him until it goes off.

The best way to play him is with cards that are either good to discard (the Madness mechanic), like to be in the graveyard (the Flashback mechanic), or like having other cards in the graveyard (a ton of different things). For example: my LD Magnivore deck uses Tibalt's +1 to incidentally charge up Magnivore and the -4 to make the most of the fact that my opponent has a bunch of unplayable cards stuck in his hand.

I've got him in my EDH deck, and he puts in TONS of work. Its a great application for him and helps with the reanimation strategy.

He dumps cards in my graveyard and gives me cards, and also can Insurrection if left unchecked.

It has been theorized that tibalt could legitimately make it into modern loam, which is like a tier 3 deck (and EXTREMELY sweet). I think that's the most the little devil could hope for.

hopefully out of town on the horse he came in on.... all jokes aside, Squee, Goblin Nabob, unearth, and madness creatures are probably your best bet. Unfortunately, hes pretty much unplayable in anything but kitchen table magic. The random discard makes it nearly impossible to control unless you wait to play him till after you have all your lands out, and only run the aforementioned squee, madness, unearth, and flashback cards. Honestly the juice really doesn't seem worth the squeeze though, considering his ultimate is highly dependent on your opponent having a board full of powerful creatures.

I prefer to just run him through the washing machine until all the terrible just melts away.

Life from the Loam, Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded, Flame Jab, wurm harvest, Crucible of Worlds, Countryside Crusher, some Mulch-like effects, and you have yourself a halfway decent RG Loam deck.

Thank you, MindAblaze, for mentioning Library of Leng. That card is INSANE with Tibalt. I honestly love Tibalt. The trick to using him without necessarily building around him is to shove him into an extremely aggressive red deck. I actually run Tibs for his +1 ability; I just don't use it every turn. You can keep some lands in hand to increase the probability that you discard a land rather than your draw. Red doesn't really get ways to refresh its hand each turn without a mana investment. If you keep a land in hand, you can make your topdecking considerably better with Tibalt, which can prevent you from getting mana flooded. You just need to be a little creative in your usage, either in how you play him or how you build around him. I'm not saying he's ripe for competitive play, but when properly used he's an absolute workhorse in casual decks.

lol... with Library of Leng, the +1 is basically brainstorm, but better since you can bin the card if you want. That means that tibalt's +1 is better than JTMS's 0, which would make tibalt the new best planeswalker. I think?

I made a Hellbent deck for him. It isn;t that good, but probably one of the few ways it works.

What you do to run Tibalt in a good deck is add in:

Then you need to Remove Tibalt because he is horrible. But he was in a good deck for a little bit.

I have been mixing some mechanics together in order to try to best utilize Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded. However, it has been very difficult to decide what to focus the build around. There are many options and it is hard to narrow. Here is what I have so far: Tibalt's Sadistic Adventure

Also a good way to do things: Possibility Storm.

Put that down, cast Tibalt, get any other planeswalker in your deck for RR. Pretty good value if you're going for Bolas or Karn.
