Help With a Budget Pod Deck

Deck Help forum

5c Homebrew Pod (Input Wanted) The updates are the questions I specifically want said input on but any and all is appreciated. Haven't done explanations for the sideboard yet, but the 4x Obstinate Baloth are because a couple friends and I are just getting into Modern and one is making a discard deck so I'll probably face that a lot. I left the comments specifically to explain that I plan on keeping both the Melira combo and the Kiki combo

Sin Collector over Black Cat . Entomber Exarch to the sideboard.

For five drops, Reveillark is a must, and is better than Thragtusk . Restoration Angel is a must alongside Kiki-Jiki.

GlistenerAgent (love that name by the way), I agree that Sin collector will usually be better than Black Cat but it's filling the two drop slot which is important for pod interactions. Aside from them my two drops are Melira (who I usually don't wanna sacrifice) or VoR (who is a one-of IF I can get one which so far has been unsuccessful). So the two drop with a death effect is what it's there for more so than attacking their hand.

I'll definitely add Restoration Angel and just drop blue entirely. I like both Entomber Exarch and Reveillark . Although if I'm going for a five drop it'll probably by Thundermaw Hellkite (although being a one-of he may have died or been stuck in my hand or something). But it may be a problem that I have nothing to Pod Reveillark into...I may have to shuffle things around and grab a six drop to make that work

Out of Curiosity what do you think is the best 6drop I could use outside of Titans or Wurmcoil Engine ?

That's understandable. I usually play Pod with three Voices, so your reasoning is very understandable.

You don't need to Pod Reveillark . If they don't kill it, they take four every turn. if they do, you buyback all of your value creatures and pull more shenanigans (Eternal Witness says hey). Thundermaw Hellkite is just a beatstick, which is fine, but you want your five drop in a Pod deck to have a game-breaking effect.

Don't play six drops. They are almost impossible to Pod into, and casting them can be clunky and not worth your while.

Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip and Sprouting Thrinax don't see play in Pod, but your specific color choices and deck structure make both of them pretty good options to think about.

@GlistenerAgent I see what you mean with Reveillark , I'll be sure to find a spot for it. How many do you usually play? Cause I'm think I'll just squeeze one in due to shoving two combos and a midrange strategy into 75 cards

That's often been my experience with six drops, just wondered if you had any that worked better. Nice to have confirmation though

Probably won't play Huntmaster cause I feel my four drops are solid and he's not entirely cheap, but I like the idea of Sprouting Thrinax . He's probably in contestation with Glissa, the Traitor which is interesting cause Glissa's gotta stick to do some damage but she really does some damage when she sticks. The Thrinax is better for podding though...we'll see what happens with those then. Probably one and one or two Glissa and one Thrinax

Thanks for all the help and input:) has really helped the deck already and will only serve to improve it as I test your ideas some more

One is the most you should play. It's good, but it costs five.

Glissa, the Traitor isn't particularly playable IMO. First strike deathtouch, yes, but it's color intensive and doesn't provide any real value.

GlistenerAgent Glissa is to be used against "fair" creature heavy decks or people who like to blow up my Birthing Pod (like a mirror match-up). I also like the deathtouch and trample combo(ish) with Kessig Wolf Run . But if it turns out to be more trouble than it's worth I will certainly drop her
